Things not going your way in real life again? Has the wife been making you feel small again? Still no big calling at Church? Still lacking the backbone to practice what you preach and serve a senior mission? You seem to come here to try and elevate yourself by putting other people down. That's really not very Christlike at all. You might think you're renewing your covenants each week, but you're only completing a trite routine. It obviously doesn't have meaning, because if it did your tone, your style, the way you speak to people, would be markedly different. Your weekly Church visits don't seem to be educating you into becoming a nicer person. Why is that?MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2025 3:59 amYeah, right.
Without my contributions the topics, on the whole, would have been a rehash. As I look through the topic headers I don't see anything that doesn't appear at first glance to be a rehash of a topic that's already been discussed nauseum.
Admittedly, once I join(ed) in almost ANY thread it definitely got/gets the ball rolling from my recollection and experience. You guys can't help yourselves!
You guys are still at it! (why am I not surprised?)

Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

The smartest move I ever made was jettisoning those silly beliefs and breaking covenants that are solely designed to enslave the mind and spirit and keep people from true enlightenment like that expressed by the Buddha and other great thinkers both ancient and modern.
SAY "NO" TO ORGANIZED RELIGION! It's all a hoax. It's made up in order to keep people down.
You MG, are a slave to the system you subscribe to. Your Jesus is in your imagination and all that you've read about him is creative writings preserved by those who reported some things correctly but others corrupted those teachings to create a religion to entrap and enslave.
You are not free, MG. You're a slave to the system. So bow down and say, "YES my master." The Church is your master and you will obey it.

YES! I bash Mormonism.
Amen.
Have you seen the Led Zeppelin movie, yet? I haven't been able to make the trek to do so but it's high on the list.
Have you tried gummies, yet? They are awesome. I like gummies and I like to drink! It's fun.

Not much new to shout about, huh?
Same stuff. Criticize the leaders. Money issues. Book of Mormon historicity. Purported organizational missteps. Accusations of dishonesty and evil doing. Dissing Christianity as a whole. Oh yeah, Dr. Peterson too.
Etc.
And grapes don't grow on trees. Or do they, MG?

Renew...bring to remembrance. At times some repentance is part of that process. Thus the weekly sacrament ordinance. Humans tend towards the 'natural man' and reminders of 'what would Jesus do' are necessary and helpful in keeping covenants made with God.

Different strokes for different folks. I don't see it that way. The church is a means to an end. Striving to become a better disciple of Jesus Christ and remain unspotted from the world. That's not for everyone.
And it's not easy. We are human beings prone to sin. Jesus's Atonement creates a 'system' (as you like to put it) in which we can grow and flourish by overcoming the natural man and become men and women of Christ.
You may be looking 'past the mark' as you judge members of the church and the organization itself. The whole purpose of the church is to bring souls to Christ and live lives of goodness and service to their fellowman and create families that love and serve each other in love and kindness. And to worship and respect God and His goodness. It's not rocket science.
Granted, there are folks in and out of the church that get sidetracked onto other 'issues' and lose sight of what the church is all about.
That is unfortunate.

MG

Hello again IHAQ. You make statements and make accusations that are not true in order to score points. That is your track record. Your questions, on the whole, are unworthy of someone of your caliber. Please engage in civil conversation.I Have Questions wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2025 8:14 am

My point in creating this thread was simply to hop in and merely mention and point out the truth. Go back and read my initial post.
I have a feeling you would like to rehash a rehash of a rehash of something that has been either repeated or said before. I'm not interested in that.

Nothing that I can remember off hand. I was home with a back injury that has kind of laid me up. But the week before that? Also, nothing that I can remember off hand.Gadianton wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2025 4:11 amAs they say, you can't judge a book by its cover. You may suspect that the topics are rehashes, but unless you've read through a substantial number of threads, you don't know that.
I notice you didn't answer my question:
What did you learn this past Sunday at church that was totally new, that you'd never heard of or considered before in your life?
My point in my initial post is to simply say what I've said before. There is nothing new under the sun in regards to the the motivations and contributions of the critics anymore. The bases have been covered. Thus my interest in why folks continue to come here as a community to bash the LDS Church and its members. I would think that would get old.
I suppose you might be going after new converts?

I’m curious if you think that other counter-cult groups should also cease discussion.
Is there no value in preventing, say, a Scientologist from devoting their life to Scientology, assuming that Scientology is a dangerous and false cult?
If Mormonism is similarly false, is there no value in guiding people away from another cult? And providing a bit of community to people who have learned the truth and lost theirs?

Hmmm, is this a trick or a treat? When you say, "the bases have been covered;" who covered the bases, the critics or the apologists or both?
