Agree to disagree. I think there is something more to it.

Amen.

In the Mormon worldview we are all agents of Satan, under his spell.

That’s an important characteristic of a cult, demonizing the critics of the cult.
No. I simply think you are mistaken.

Hey Moksha, it's not a matter of getting attention for me. I've stated previously why I post here periodically. It is not for self-aggrandizement. It is to offer a counter point to the prevailing winds that blow over this landscape.

I repented a while back. With your help! Hope you're well and that you have repented of all your sins.

It's all relative, isn't it? You probably don't have any.

Be well.

And you wonder and make fun of how my post count could be so high. Duh. I feel obligated to respond to posts that have substantial meaning, purpose, thought, and content.

So here I am.

Your input is appreciated, especially since, If I recall correctly, you know him in real life, right? In any case, he responded to you, so we know he considers your posts to have "substantial meaning, purpose, thought, and content."

MG is the stereotypical hypocritical Mormon.

He comes here to pontificate about how peeps here are wasting their time posting about nothing.

May I present his stats since 2021:
Total posts:4598
(2.45% of all posts / 3.59 posts per day)

Keep that pallet of Snapple Iced Tea from Costco well hidden in the basement old man.

Hello to the same old players. It's been a few months since I've checked to see what is happening around here.

Not much new to shout about, huh?

Same stuff. Criticize the leaders. Money issues. Book of Mormon historicity. Purported organizational missteps. Accusations of dishonesty and evil doing. Dissing Christianity as a whole. Oh yeah, Dr. Peterson too.

Etc.

If you folks were to be paid for your work here it would be a fairly healthy second income.

And you wouldn't have to pay tithing!

Step outside and breathe. Hug a child. Serve a neighbor. Take a drive. Read a good book. Have a real life conversation. Get off the dang keyboard!

I was going to hop in and add my two cents on a thread or two, but then I thought...why? ;) I'd like to see something new or interesting to comment on but, alas, that doesn't seem to be a possibility. Why join in on a thread if it's just a rehash of a rehash?

If I see something that sparks my interest...maybe.

So that I don't totally waste your time, here are a couple of conversations I've listened to recently that are thought provoking/interesting:

For those of you who are Jonathan Rauch fans.

Ya' all keep the lights on, hear?

Stay well.

Your lack of self awareness is either deliberate or staggering narcissism. You choose.

Then put your money where your mouth is and apply for a senior mission.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

MG should have the right to proclaim the joys of Snapple openly on this board, even if the public use of Snapple is a bit problematic for his ward. Here at Discuss Mormonism, we realize that his eternal status is not affected by that superstition.

Let him have a sense of peace and rationality here. A place where he can experience enlightenment even for a brief time.

I've been clear about why I pop into this board periodically. What is less clear is why those that no longer believe in the church or its teachings are here over the long haul. I think there is something else besides "community". The evidence of that is the fixation placed upon criticism of the church, its leaders, its teachings, and those that defend the same.

It seems as though there are some that can't get enough of it and continue to come back day by day, week by week, and year after year to get their 'fix". Rehash after rehash. Almost like an addiction. A religious zeal of sorts.

My opening post is simply pointing out that it interesting that those that are no longer believers and one would think have moved on... haven't. I find that fascinating.

And sad in its own way. I would suggest moving on and find another fixation or hobby. The church and its leaders/members are doing just fine. All of your bellyaching won't change that as much as you might hope that it would/could.

MG
