In regards to the number of posts I've made over time I make no excuses. I have been clear that one of my primary purposes is to speak to those that are on the fence or are lurking.

I fully realize that I have little or no impact for the better with the 'die hards' on the board who are directly opposed to the CofJCofLDS, its leaders, and those that subscribe to its teachings and practices.

I am here for the same reason you are (just like many others) except we are on different sides of the fence.

MG, you are a TBM missionary and I am a PIMO missionary. We are both seeking to educate, entertain and help people, even though we both have different deeply held opinions about the church.

The discussmormonism community, for the most part, is about politics/experiences/life/doubt/god/religion and friendship - and what happens when these worlds collide. It can be a very uplifting, educational and entertaining place. I suspect you agree and that’s why you’ve been here for years and years.

Can you explain how your opening post on this thread that you started fits that purpose?

How are you measuring your impact? Over those years is there any evidence that you’ve had a scintilla of impact that has made any difference whatsoever in someone’s faith crisis? Can you point to your biggest success here?

If I would have stopped searching/seeking at a given time way back when I would have a long list of unresolved issues. As it is I didn't stop searching/seeking and many of the things that were once troubling, to say the least, no longer are. Do I still have questions, sure. But time and patience and study and thought have brought me to a place that I wouldn't have reached if I had simply thrown up my hands and said, "Game over."

Otherwise I'd probably be one of those PIMO guys. I can see how some folks might end up in that place.

I don't see any hypocrisy. I do see an important distinction. I'm under covenant to share and express my belief/testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Those on this board are doing what they do because they essentially are under compulsion, rather than covenant, to bash the church, its leaders, and those members that stand up for their beliefs in a public setting.

Nah, I'm not buying it. Mental said this is his religion's purpose:

[To] live lives of goodness and service to their fellowman...

What mental does here in no way accomplishes that. He even admits he has said all of this before. There is nothing new under the sun regarding the motivations and contributions of mentalgymnast, to paraphrase himself.

I would think that it would get old, but he seems obsessed with being rude to others. My guess offhand is he gets attention here that he can't get elsewhere. At least we talk to him. If no one else will, then i feel sorry for the old guy. That must be a sad existence if he has to come here and insult people just to get someone to speak to him.

You're funny, Marcus. I have a life. The time I spend here off and on truly is an opportunity to do some missionary work in a place that most members of the church would not find comfortable. I, on the other hand, find it interesting and stimulating in the sense that I've had to buck up against folks that think they know it all and try and reason with them.

That's an opportunity in my book. Even communicating with you can at times be interesting and have value.

No, still not buying it. The way mentalgymnast tries to demean and insult others would never qualify as missionary work, at least not to legitimate missionaries. There's some other obsession driving this one. Or, like was suggested, maybe he's just that lonely.
