Re: Elder Robert C. Gay Uses The Priesthood To Resurrect A Gnat He Had Just Murdered
What I find troubling about the story is that this kind of "Lazarus" miracle is not in line with how the Lord operates today. The Lord works miracles by guiding the hands of surgeons or in conjunction with the efforts of his servants. I'd find the story more believable if Elder Gay first administered CPR on the gnat before the Lord stepped in to make up the difference.

Well, I mean, the lives of gnats are so much more important than children who die innocently of horrible cancer deaths and through starvation by no fault of their own. God certainly has His priorities right..........Everybody Wang Chung wrote: ↑Sun Mar 02, 2025 4:17 amThis talk from Elder Gay about murdering and then subsequently resurrecting a gnat is just pure comedy gold. I guess the gnat lacked the faith not to be healed? I've swatted many flies in my life that were just stunned and a few minutes later they revived and buzzed away. Little did I know that just like Elder Gay, I was also witnessing a priesthood miracle.
Maybe I'm just straining at gnats, but I can't understand why the people who review talks didn't take him aside and say, " Elder Gay this talk sucks, and more important, it's completely bonkers." Is this what the Church has become? More important, I wonder how Elder Gay felt about all the insect splatters on his windshield after driving back from Church?

The persistence of the gnat began to really annoy me. Finally, I had enough. I raised my hands and slapped them together and killed the gnat. I cannot explain to this day what happened next: I looked down at the dead gnat in the palm of my hand and felt great compassion. I said to myself, “That gnat did not need to die. It is only dead because of my frustration and impatience.” I then knelt and prayed to God to forgive me and let that gnat live again. As I finished that prayer, the gnat flew from my hand.
I have asked myself for years, why did God do this for me? Many answers have come, but none more important than this: He wanted me to understand at my very core that He has all power to lift me or anyone else, even the least. He wanted me to know He has complete compassion for our weaknesses and that He numbers the very hairs on our heads. Now, if He would restore a gnat, He will never forsake you—no matter where you stand.

What’s interesting is that the Mopologists all act as if they are completely oblivious to these embarrassing talks. Do Jack Welch or DCP think that a gnat could be raised from the dead like this? Do gnats have NDEs? The bottom line, I suppose, is that these guys all belong to the same church, and the ones telling these whackadoodle stories are in leadership positions.

I have my doubts that Cook actually met Jagger while flying in coach. But if it really did happen, I'm pretty sure that Jagger -- if he remembers the incident at all -- would just remember it as the time some boring old Mormon nutjob harassed him on a plane.

Re: Elder Robert C. Gay Uses The Priesthood To Resurrect A Gnat He Had Just Murdered
This reminds me of a story that was passed down through the Exiled family over the generations. Great great uncle Dr. Backy Exiled was an assistant to Louis Pasteur back in the day, helping him with his experiments on microorganisms. He was a sensitive soul that cared about all life, including gnats and various bacterium. He had taken in a bacteria culture as his pets and fought Pasteur over whether his new pets would be used in the experiments. They fought and wouldn't you know it that the evil Pasteur snuck into the lab in the middle of the night and kidnapped my faithful, holy, non-porn using relative's pets.
So, the beloved pets died in the experiment. We'll old Backy was devastated and got down on his knees and prayed that his new loves would be somehow brought back to life like Lazarus of old.
Suddenly a rush of wind entered the room and a feeling came over him like no feeling ever. The bacteria came back to life!
Well, ole Backy was so excited that he took his friends home to live in peace, away from the evil doctor Pasteur, thanking God the whole way home. When he got home, wouldn't you know it that Backy's nerdowell brother Felix knocked the petri dish over spilling Dr. Backy's buddies all over the floor. Later half that family died of some unknown cause, but Dr. Backy Exiled lived to a ripe old age.

Myth is misused by the powerful to subjugate the masses all too often.

For heaven's sakes there was no mention of priesthood just the idea that God kindly cares for small things that's a nice thought even if one can see plenty of non-miraculous ways this gnat survived.

This brings up the question, “why does God save the gnat and not the drowning child?”
The limited Mormon God who is incapable of performing miracles is actually much kinder and less capricious. The God with magic powers choosing to save a gnat while watching humans endure unspeakable suffering is just plain psychopathic.

Elder Gay is making the point that God thinks he (Elder Gay) is special. He's saying "God thinks I'm so special that he answered my prayer about a stunned gnat. I know your prayers to stop the abuse of your child, or to help with your afflictions, but really...I'm thinking that's your fault for not being faithful enough. I'm more worthy than you so God answers even my little prayers." Really it's someone with a lack of self-awareness trying to come up with a falsifiable story that makes himself look special to others. Every ward has an Elder Gay type Mormon male who uses Fast & Testimony as a platform to humble brag.Everybody Wang Chung wrote: ↑Sun Mar 02, 2025 4:17 amThis talk from Elder Gay about murdering and then subsequently resurrecting a gnat is just pure comedy gold. It is worth remembering that Elder Gay told his gnat resurrection anecdote amidst the height of the Covid pandemic when people were dying from respiratory complications. Not one of them was resurrected by prayer. Nobody was saved by Elder Gay.

Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

But the real lesson to be learned from the Gene Cook / Mick Jagger affair is that the church uses the widow's mite to fly its general authorities in first class seating. I wonder how many of our TBM friends ever made the connection?
