The Suicide Dance of Progressivism
Many here are curious about my strong aversion to progressivism and my belief that its current form will lead to the decline of the Democrat party. I initiated this thread to reveal the beliefs held by many progressives that have shaped the Paganesk movement over the last 150 years.
Herbert Croly was a progressive philosopher active from the 1800s to the early 1900s. He contended that Americans should move beyond their Jeffersonian heritage, which prioritized minimal government, decentralized authority, and the sanctity of individual freedom. He held the conviction that a strong centralized government was essential for safeguarding democracy and advancing social progress. He believed that an impartial elite, guided by scientific principles, could rejuvenate American life. He also believed that human nature could be elevated through enhancements in institutions and laws. More on him later!
My intention with this thread is to provide information that helps readers comprehend why the progressive movement opposes America and the individual freedoms that enable its citizens to experiment in their daily lives. By emphasizing the ideas of early progressive leaders, I believe it will clarify my strong opposition to the progressive movement having a significant influence within my beloved Democratic Party.
Progressive actions are leading to a self-destructive path that will result in the downfall of the Democrat party. They refuse to compromise, now and always, regardless of the circumstances!
As a nation, we have permitted, driven by sympathy and compassion, the progressive movement to undermine numerous Jeffersonian principles upon which this great country was established. It is now essential that we communicate to the American electorate the extent to which progressivism threatens a nation founded on individual freedom for all.
The suicide dance of Progressivism threatens to undermine individual freedom and pave the way for a centralized government that will consume our personal liberties.

If by "many here are," you really mean "nobody here is," you'd be spot on.Hound of Heaven wrote: ↑Wed Mar 05, 2025 12:52 pmMany here are curious about my strong aversion to progressivism and my belief that its current form will lead to the decline of the Democrat party.

Suicide dance of progressivism? Good grief! What about the suicide dance of Trumpism? Do you honestly think that Trump gives a tinker's damn about "Jeffersonian principles"? LOL!!!Hound of Heaven wrote: ↑Wed Mar 05, 2025 12:52 pmMany here are curious about my strong aversion to progressivism and my belief that its current form will lead to the decline of the Democrat party. Isn't it ironic that you have thrown in your lot with corrupt tyrants and tech-authoritarians because you claim to believe in liberty and Jeffersonian principles! Trump and his tech bro authoritarian supporters take a huge dump all over liberty every day. They are tearing our system apart and doing whatever the eff they want even though much of it is illegal.
Get out of here with your claim that you believe in anything to do with liberty and "Jeffersonian principles." We get it. You dislike the extremes of the left. Now you are embracing a tyrant and his goon cronies because of your hatred of the left. The only freedom these alt-right monsters and oligarchs believe in is the freedom of the rich and powerful to do whatever they want without legal constraint.
Congratulations.

Christ, you are such a damned liar, and so bad at it. You'd think all the practice would make you a better liar, but no.
I've never met a Democrat so against progress, and I don't believe for a second you're one. Nobody here (except the Trump fans) is dumb enough to believe your BS.

No we aren't, we aren't the least bit curious about this all, trust me. We already know what you think about it, nothing you could ever say can further clarify the matter. What we are curious about is what beliefs you have ever had that were the concern of Democrats rather than of MAGA republicans. But you have specifically told me that you will not be answering that.HoH wrote:Many here are curious about my strong aversion to progressivism and my belief that its current form will lead to the decline of the Democrat party.

We know it's a Trump fan when he uses one of Trump's most transparent strategies: Many people are saying... which means nobody is saying it.

Nonsense! A strong central government with a judiciary committed to strongly defending and supporting the U.S. constitution, and its Bill of Rights is the strongest guarantee we can have of the continuing preservation of our personal liberties!Hound of Heaven wrote: ↑Wed Mar 05, 2025 12:52 pmThe suicide dance of Progressivism threatens to undermine individual freedom and pave the way for a centralized government that will consume our personal liberties.
Why do you seem so adamantly opposed to the very idea of progress itself? If you are so adamantly opposed to progressives and the very idea of progressivism, then I don't think you understand the very definition of the word progress. Progressivism is merely a commitment to continually be alert to how we can improve what we already have and know and eliminate what is not or no longer working well. But it must be combined with a commitment to retain what has served and is still serving us well. This the proper role of conservatism. When progressives and conservatives work together and respectfully listen to and honestly consider each other's concerns and ideas, we can form a negative feedback loop that ensures the possibility of continual improvement with minimal risk of recklessly racing ahead and disastrously "jumping off the rails."
Without conservatives, we might risk losing or not maintaining what has worked before and is still working well. But without progressives, we would never have advanced beyond the stone age or even have advanced as far as the stone age.

No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

Well said, Gunnar. The undermining of the constitutional republic is the fast track to despotism.
