I think the Church has painted itself into a corner on this, and other issues with their unique scriptures. The ‘skin turning black’ doctrine would be another good example. It’s obvious that it needs removing, but to do so confirms that it was wrong in the first place, and where does that leave the credibility of the Book of Abraham, the Book of Mormon, and Joseph Smith as a divinely inspired Prophet? It would sink them below the water line. So they have to double down on ridiculous things, obviously false things, and hope sufficient amounts of members continue to swallow the nonsense or, in most cases, to not look nor think too hard about this stuff.
You guys are still at it! (why am I not surprised?)

Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

The removal of Facsimile No. 3 coupled with an apology is the first step in setting the record straight. Then, the Church will need to remove the other Facsimiles because they are outrageous explanations of the ancient Egyptian religion and slander sacred rituals practiced by a people who exercised faith in their own belief system.
Then, the Church can remove chapter one because it's a false narrative of how and when Egypt became a nation state.
Finally, the Church must dump the rest and move on. That is what the end result must be.

Unfortunately the people who become President do not want to be remembered as the guy who officially disavowed the Book of Abraham. They lack the integrity to do so and instead, leave it for the next guy to deal with. Can you remember a Prophet who has publicly admitted a mistake? Who apologised for getting something wrong? They can’t even admit that 100 years of racism against black people was a mistake.Shulem wrote: ↑Sun Mar 16, 2025 8:10 pm

Re: MG would concur
That is what the Church has been doing all this time. The apologists lie to the stupid members and the members believe the lie. The Church is responsible for all this lying and for promoting a false narrative of ancient Egypt. The Church is a dangerous organization that cannot be trusted to tell the truth.I Have Questions wrote: ↑Sun Mar 16, 2025 7:53 pmSo they have to double down on ridiculous things, obviously false things, and hope sufficient amounts of members continue to swallow the nonsense or, in most cases, to not look nor think too hard about this stuff.
MG is just another shameful Mormon and he comes to this board to take pot-shots and then run like the coward he is.
It's over for you, MG. We are on to you. The Book of Abraham is a millstone about your neck and you've sunk.
Goodbye and don't let the door hit you on the way down, carefully into the abyss -- chained about by a lying spirit.

I don’t think the members (generally) are necessarily stupid. Most are quite happy not thinking in detail about this stuff, they are happy in their community with their family and friends and social life. Hard for them to proactively jeopardise all that.Shulem wrote: ↑Sun Mar 16, 2025 8:17 pmThat is what the Church has been doing all this time. I do agree that MG is a shameless coward though.

I think this is why Joseph Fielding Smith didn't destroy the odd first vision account. In his subterranean brain he was scared God would remove him for desecration of sacred scripture. On the other hand, leaders hedge their bets that removing or altering scripture is justified in order to remain relevant.I Have Questions wrote: ↑Sun Mar 16, 2025 8:15 pmUnfortunately the people who become President do not want to be remembered as the guy who officially disavowed the Book of Abraham. I think members are stupid because they can't or won't count and are spoon-fed lies from apologists and leaders of the Church who claim all is well with the Book of Abraham.
Numbers are numbers.

Kerry M. likes both boys and girls?
Kind of like how the hieroglyphs ("characters") written in Facsimile No. 3 are peripherally related to the persons standing below?
Silly Mormons. They are addicted to lying:
Who the hell are you trying to kid, Kerry-baby? You're a freaking liar and your pants are on fire! So pull them down!Kerry Muhlestein wrote:I am not disturbed by Joseph labeling Figure 2 as a male when the picture and text identify a female.

Re: MG would concur
I've been on a little road trip with my wife visiting family. Not much to see here. Back to calling names and criticizing 'the other' while at the same time having a fear of revealing a bit about yourself by answering my questions.
Shouldn't be that hard.
This thread is all I thought it would be. And more.

Regards,
MG
