It's not a particularly Marxist idea though some Marxist may have used the words. Serious Marxists sometimes adopt a view to gain popularity. The communist party in the US was an important supporter of racial civil rights. That does not mean civil rights is Marxism.

A couple of fragments of speech saying equity can be an important consideration does not explain important how or in what context. Nobody, no matter how far left, wants everybody to be the same. No Marxist wants that. They want government ownership of the means of production.
