Re: TDS
I am sure that Hound will be grateful for your advice, Dr Exiled. I get all the comic relief I need watching him and you in action, thanks.

I think that I get all of the humor that I can possibly experience just from watching Trump voters try to explain why they voted for him, or why they’re so afraid of email signatures.3. Humor-Based Therapy

Re: TDS
Imagine being the kind of stupid person who brings up "TDS" when their Constitutional rights are being nulled by a rogue president who lusts after illicit power and profit.
You would think that they would be more concerned about their rights than others' perceived dislike of a vulgar lunatic.

Kishkumen, perhaps my intention did not quite connect. I am not seeking to excuse defend or offer grace to destructive political movement. I am trying to look at why the cancer spreads. I find it in some ways very puzzling. Sure a good deal results from large investments in political propaganda. Perhaps that effort is smartly aimed at people's blind spots. Or assumptions not looked atKishkumen wrote: ↑Tue May 06, 2025 7:24 pmThe road to hell is paved with good intentions. The question is not what people hoped would happen by voting for candidate X, the question is what likelihood they could reasonably have had of their hopes being realized. There is only so much time and grace owed to the stupid or ignorant for their bad judgment in voting for Trump. If they persist in believing that a cruel, stupid narcissist who exercises the very worst in bad judgment is helping the country in any way, while he dismantles the government, covers the ceiling of the Oval Office in gold leaf, and violates the Constitution repeatedly to harm the innocent, they are more to be pitied or even resented for their catastrophically blinkered decisions.huckelberry wrote: ↑Tue May 06, 2025 6:42 pmMost of the time I imagine that the percentage of people hoping our life and country could get better is large enough to include Hound. Why Trump wants to make America great so he is a progressive.
It is possible that there a few people who want to make things worse, perhaps revenge on the world for their frustration and unhappiness. It is possible a few such people support Trump knowing that he really is not a progressive like he claims to be.
I think there are more people who feel progressives of the D preference are not making enough progress so want to tr y the T version. This change may not include much thought but an individual exception could explain.
Oh. I did wish to toy with Hounds funny Progressive fears.

HoH has only made himself look more irrational and clueless than ever in this thread. I have seen more substantive and rational arguments coming from flat earth believers!Kishkumen wrote: ↑Tue May 06, 2025 8:18 pmImagine being the kind of stupid person who brings up "TDS" when their Constitutional rights are being nulled by a rogue president who lusts after illicit power and profit.

No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

Re: TDS
Mea culpa, huck. It is a good question. I don’t think there is a simple answer. Trump said a lot of different things that casual listeners with serious concerns wanted to hear. They did not adequately scrutinize the reliability and honesty of the speaker. These might be some of the blind spots you refer to. Like Christians who believe they are persecuted because a few atheists publicly ridicule them, or, heaven forfend, they might be asked to make a wedding cake for a gay couple. This is why I have little patience for them in regards to their politics, however. They give away their Constitutional rights and prosperity for a mess of pottage.huckelberry wrote: ↑Tue May 06, 2025 9:10 pmKishkumen, perhaps my intention did not quite connect. It's the needless hyperbole, the overly emotional pleas, tantrums, and the uncalled for hate of those that don't think like some here that lose me. The sky isn't falling. Democracy isn't dead. But, if you're looking to create enemies, keep it up. Just make sure to blame MAGA for your antics, because of course they cause you to act this way, and it'll be fine, until it's not.Kishkumen wrote: ↑Tue May 06, 2025 8:18 pmImagine being the kind of stupid person who brings up "TDS" when their Constitutional rights are being nulled by a rogue president who lusts after illicit power and profit.

You're being duped into attacking the wrong people. Trump is a symptom of something larger and an interloper. Trump is only here for a few more years and will be gone. The MAGA family and former friends will be here for a while longer. Maybe think of how to persuade them instead of attacking.

Re: TDS
Unfortunately, that has been the business model for the biggest profit mills of media propaganda for two decades now, courtesy of folks like Limbaugh and then Fox News. Remember Obama’s brownshirts and FEMA death camps? From what reality did those spring? And, yes, I also remember the stories of how the end of America was nigh for quite a few folks on the other side when Bush II was around.
So that’s how the game is played, with hairless apes that still believe that their gut and their god always counts for more than someone else’s facts. We know how to make cool toys, but we are still basically tribal animals with a heavy dependence on anger and fear.
And how does that work? The MAGA family and former friends will be here for a while longer. Maybe think of how to persuade them instead of attacking.
How convinced were you by anything that I had to say about climate change after our exchange on that subject a few months back?
How do we move forward given how people prioritize ego and feelings over fact?
