Got the book.

I think I'm going to take some time and read it along with a couple of other books I'm trying to read/finish.

Later.

One thing I've noticed that seems to run in common among those that have either left the church or are antagonistic towards its leaders. Generally speaking, critics/antagonists look at every leader as being the 'bogeyman'. And that they...the critic...ALWAYS know better.

MG
Okay, but after reading Dan's best seller, don't advertise that you've become a Bible scholar and you will not have any 'splaing to do. If a ward member spots you in the bookstore and does report you, try to reaffirm that their mantle is greater than your scholarship!!! Don't worry about the critics, just do this simple duck and cover technique to help cover your membership.

Congrats are in order to Daniel McClellan. His new book, The Bible Says So just entered the New York Times Best Seller List at #7.

After a fairly rapid reading of the beginning of the book, it is clear to me that the author is well-read in Biblical scholarship, and has devoted much effort to communicating what he knows (which is a great deal) to non-specialist readers.

For example, early into the book he in effect asks the apparently naïve question 'What is this thing people call "the Bible", anyway?", and he leads the reader through the steps leading to understanding how entirely dependent on chance and human decision-making was the selecting and ordering of the group of texts that most 21st century English-speaking Christians nowadays call by that name. All well worth reading!

I thought the KJV was handed down by God from Mt Sinai like the (two) 10 commandments!

See? Even God learned his lesson. Instead of writing his commandments on rock, he helped the Nephites record on golden plates instead... they last longer. Smart God that.

If only the compilers of the Bible had left more of the books in (especially those with a more gnostic slant), Joseph Smith would have more to work with when he was compiling the Book of Mormon.

But how could Joseph run so fast (Vogel made the comment it looked like he was delivering Dan's lunch) in the Witnesses movie with 100lb plates? At least pumice tablets would be effortless.

Oh, this rabbit hole has the potential to go a long way.

Well, how about that? A hearty congratulations to Maklelan! And as the B. H. Roberts Chair, this is especially satisfying because of how insanely jealous DCP will be about this. lol! Let’s see if this gets a mention on SeN—or, even better, if it gets reviewed by Interpreter!
Dr. Scratch,

It looks like you are correct about the Afore being insanely jealous. Not even a peep from him. It's interesting that anytime Stephen Bukkake Smoot or John Gee make even the smallest contribution to any obscure periodical or online rag, it gets a big mention from the Afore.

Daniel McClellan's book debuts on the New York Times Best Seller List and there isn't even a peep. Psychologically fascinating!
