You are seriously comparing a teenager working on family farm to a multi billion dollar organization allowing volunteers to pay to work for them? Good god.
Oh puleaze stop your ludicrous pearl-clutching.

When a ride on lawn mower flips over, killing the operator, that’s not an accident.
This senior missionary had been serving four months. I’m assuming that this person received the same training and was operating the same mower as many before him did.
It was an accident. Are you privy to whether or not he was operating a new mower rather than the same one others had operated before him? Do you have a picture of the particular mower he was operating?
Are you making another mountain out of a molehill in regards to pointing fingers and assigning blame? It wouldn’t be the first time.
These sorts of freak accidents that happen are regrettable and unfortunate. I feel for his wife and family as I’m sure you do.

Yeah, I am not sure how this is not an accident. Did President Nelson personally flip the lawnmower over on purpose? I thought he looked untrustworthy, but I had no idea he had superhuman strength too!
In any case, I hope the proper precautions are taken to prevent another such accident. I am sad for this family's loss. Now someone please stop the Mormon prophet before he kills again!

I stand corrected with that response. All due apologies to the person who gives deference to and apparently has a higher knowledge of a real version of reality than me.

LOL. Or you can follow the conversation where I explained what I was trying to convey. Or not. Your choice.

Omg..... are you intentionally obtuse? We know who the guy was. He was a shop teacher from Helper Utah. A place that approximately matches Mars in moisture content. He faithfully wanted to serve in something that meant a lot to him and his wife and I am okay with that. Shop teachers have a mechanic mindset and they know how machines work ....in theory. BEING A TEACHER in Helper Utah gives no experience in this especially when you're older. A 30 year career teaching career is no replacement for suddenly jumping on a mower for a only a few months in unfamiliar terrain. Good hell worse things have happened to people randomly but you have to agree this could have been avoided somwhere.

OMG!!! Calm the eff down! Have I not said, consistently, that I hope that the right lessons are learned to prevent other such accidents in the future!?!?!?!
Really, dude, I have no idea why you feel the need to be a dick about this. He could have been the guy who liked to tool around in the desert in a dune buggy, for all you know. My dad drives one on steep rocky knolls in the desert of Arizona. I have no doubt that my dad would feel confident driving a mower, and I have no doubt that he could have a terrible accident doing so. Hell, he is in his 80s, and we wish he would not choose to drive his dune buggy. But, guess what?
It's HIS EFFING BUSINESS.

You still don't see it.... We all do risky things. We all love to live life and venture out in the world. It's not like Suzuki is responsible for building a machine that kills people and they should be held responsible. It is the infrastructure that puts inexperienced people in them and in an astute immoral way makes them guilty if they don't do it. That is the difference.

No, you want to have a row because you don't have enough drama in your life this evening. You have decided that you know how much training one should have driving an effing lawnmower before they leave you alone to do it yourself. I judge differently, and that makes me "obtuse." I don't see this as evidence that the LDS Church has been horribly negligent. Sorry.
That said, now that this has happened, I do hope that people who are not simply righteous keyboard jockeys do investigate the situation and do what can be done to prevent such an accident from being repeated. If that means keeping everyone over 55 off a lawnmower, cool. If it means requiring a six-month-long course in ride-mowing, cool. I'm all for it.
