The name of the Kennedy Center.

Post by Chap »

I have noticed that Trump has added his own name over the name of John F. Kennedy on an outer wall of the Kennedy centre.

But under the law establishing this centre (JOHN F. KENNEDY CENTER ACT) which is to be found here:

https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/COM ... PS-303.pdf

It is specifically provided in section 1.b.6 that:
(6) such a living memorial should be housed in the John
F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, located in the Dis-
trict of Columbia.
and further that:
4.F. (b)(1) Except as provided in paragraph (2) of this subsection,
the Board shall assure that after the date of enactment of this sub-
section, no additional memorials or plaques in the nature of memo-
rials shall be designated or installed in the public areas of the John
F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
(2) Paragraph (1) of this subsection shall not apply to—
(A) any plaque acknowledging a gift from a foreign coun-
try;
(B) any plaque on a theater chair or a theater box ac-
knowledging the gift of such chair or box; and
(C) any inscription on the marble walls in the north or
south galleries, the Hall of States, or the Hall of Nations ac-
knowledging a major contribution;
which plaque or inscription is permitted under policies of the Board
in effect on the date of enactment of this subsection.
So by what authority was the name of Donald J Trump added to the name of the centre on its outer wall, and let us note it was added ABOVE the name of John F. Kennedy, so Kennedy only appears as an addendum to Trump? Did that addition not require an act of Congress to over-ride the law which originally set up and named he centre? Apparently a lawsuit has been started to rectify this issue:

https://washingtonlitigationgroup.org/n ... dy-center/

It will be interesting to see the outcome. Does our resident lawyer have any comment, I wonder?

The GOP is completely lawless. They’ve turned into fascists and don’t care about pesky little things like upholding policy, adhering to the law, and not damned kids.

I don’t think we’ve ever had a President in need of so many participation trophies.

You have it exactly right, Chap. He defaced a national memorial to JFK. Only Congress can rename the memorial. He's a criminal and should be charged accordingly. The only things he does well is break federal law, destroy, and generate lawsuits. Those are the gifts he brings to the table. Then he destroys the table.

I honestly don’t know what MAGA sees as America having gained at this point. About the only ‘promise’ by Trump that has met some small measure of success is his anti-immigrant push, and nearly every statement and action taken by the Administration seems to be the product of a desire to insult or hurt some group of people or another. To find that gratifying is saying something about many of his supporters.

I understand the claim of ‘pragmatism’ given by some who voted for him, but this appears to be an extremely small segment of the Base as compared to the culty, flag-waving and cheerleading portion that revels in the insult and hurt campaigns. As a product of a military family, this isn’t the country that I believed we were when I was just a kid. That environment probably skewed my perspective.

One of our regulars accused me of reducing MAGA’s actions down to a root cause of hatred and/or racism. In retrospect, that reading just doesn’t feel off the mark. What else, besides those two - along with a heaping bowl of narcissism - is the reason for what Trump says and does?

Well, Trump is living in and projecting an exciting and grand delusion which is exciting to participate in. All one has to do is believe and the excitement begins.

You forgot the worse thing. He gets away with it, and his followers continue to turn blind eyes to his lawless recklessness. I have never seen anything like it.

A lawsuit is being filed in the case against Trump (admin?) for violating federal law by renaming a national memorial by side stepping congressional approval.

Also another against a performer who pulled out of a performance when the name was changed.

Please stay tuned or at least try to keep your eye on it's place in the stream while they continue to flood it with even more sh!t.

Yes indeed, lawsuits out the ying yang, and none land, there is no stopping of his lawlessness or deliberate provoking, there is no shame with his followers in Congress or the Judges, and he literally gets away with anything, and he knows it. I just have no idea how he gets to do whatever suits him regardless of consequences, and the rest of the world has to pay. It is astounding.
