Re: Brother of LDS apostle (Christofferson) charged with attempting to sexually exploit children in Utah and Ohio
Two months have passed with no further news. In the Ohio criminal suit, the judge granted the government’s motion to extend the deadline to file an indictment or information to March 29. In support of the motion, the government said that it expects to have the case “figured out” before filing an indictment. I read this as saying there will be a plea deal before an indictment is filed. I’m not sure that we will learn the full extent of what Christofferson did. I’ve seen nothing that indicates that the abuse he says he committed in Utah is being investigated. I hope I’ll be surprised.

Somehow that says it all....motion to extend the deadly...
Eta: Op corrected their post. Personally, I thought 'extending the deadly' was completely accurate.

Out of court settlement, paid for by the Church, would be my guess.Res Ipsa wrote: ↑Tue Jan 27, 2026 8:05 pmTwo months have passed with no further news. Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

It’s not a civil case. It’s a criminal case. No payment required. Just a plea agreement.I Have Questions wrote: ↑Tue Jan 27, 2026 9:26 pmOut of court settlement, paid for by the Church, would be my guess.Res Ipsa wrote: ↑Tue Jan 27, 2026 8:05 pmTwo months have passed with no further news. Ah! What might a plea agreement entail?Res Ipsa wrote: ↑Tue Jan 27, 2026 9:40 pmIt’s not a civil case. It’s a criminal case. No payment required. Just a plea agreement.I Have Questions wrote: ↑Tue Jan 27, 2026 9:26 pmOut of court settlement, paid for by the Church, would be my guess.

Tell me again why members wonder why the Pew study ranks Mormonism as on of the most disliked religion? https://www.reddit.com/media?url=ht ... 9ng1.jpeg
The church claimed D Todd didn't have any knowledge for the reason Wade was excommunicated. And in fact he turned in his brother.

Based on my (long, but limited) experience navigating courts, prison, etc...
Likely either a lesser charge, or accepting the current charges with the prosecution agreeing to either make no recommendations at the sentencing hearing, or a tailored lessened sentencing suggestion (i.e. extended probation in lieu of prison, or reduced prison sentence with other things like restitution/counseling/probation/community service, etc.), or a mixture of both.
My guess is a mixture of lesser charges, and prosecution making a recommendation at sentencing for something other than max prison sentence. It will potentially depend on what the victims want, and/or how much weight the prosecution puts on what the victims want during the negotiations.

You will notice that the statement neglects to inform readers that Henry B. Eyring knew all about it and was one of the people who whitewashed Wade Christofferson’s record.Rivendale wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2026 5:57 pmTell me again why members wonder why the Pew study ranks Mormonism as on of the most disliked religion? https://www.reddit.com/media?url=ht ... 9ng1.jpeg

At least so far the families involved haven't said anything. I am sure privacy and maybe legal issues are at play but if my daughter's had that happen to them I would be relentless in trying to find out who removed the annotation and why was the adultery rumor floated as a reason for excommunication. I would hope that allegiance to the church or family doesn't supersede the victims rights.Doctor Steuss wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2026 9:31 pmBased on my (long, but limited) experience navigating courts, prison, etc...

The statement said that Todd Christofferson knew nothing and suspected nothing about his brother’s abuse of minor family members, at any point until 2025 when Wade’s repeated behaviour was rumbled by a parent. That’s some great spirit of discernment from an Apostle, especially when it was his own kids that had been abused (which has to be the case if he’s the one who first reported it to the police in 2025).
