Thank you my friend. One bit of clarification to MGs post: I told him from the very beginning that I didn’t trust him. Yes I did. Hopefully that didn't derail things too much, just imagine the dates reversed.MG wrote:Gadianton, are your attributions mixed up on the dates?
They might not always see the things that have been done in God's name, and many of the things claimed to have been done in God's name I think even a child will see through as not really attributable to God. However, they might read the Old Testament, where they are told that God commanded the destruction of other tribes and spare nobody, including children, and they are also told that the Old Testament is the infallible word of God, and so it can't be mistaken.they see all the various forms of God worship and/or the things that have been done in God's name
Or can it?
Mormons believe that Bible is the word of God as far as it was translated correctly. Can you clarify whether those spots were correctly translated? If God didn't command the killing of all kinds of people including children, then maybe God has been misjudged by former Mormons. Then again, maybe it's not totally my fault if there was never a primary lesson or any other lesson I recall that clarified this.
Lost Gospel of Thomas 1:8 - And Jesus said, "what about the Pharisees? They did it too! Wherefore, we shall do it even more!"

Duh!
A while back I think you had put me on ignore and had committed to not communicating with me. Apparently you changed your mind. From recent exchanges I felt like I needed to get a better handle on whether or not there was an element of "trust" that still exists. I would just as well not spend too much time, if any, with folks that I'm not able to share at least a modicum of trust with.
There are a number who I absolutely do not trust as a result of their proven track record. You're not one of them. I still have that element of trust in your case. Just as I do with Gadianton and some others.
I just feel better about my own use of time if I'm communicating with someone that I think is at least half way serious/respectful and I can discuss things with them at that common meeting point.
Regards,
MG

You're wise to follow that. One of the few reasons, for me, that trust might be an explicit issue on a discussion board is if posters ask for in real life details and then twist that information in order to repeatedly take digs at another poster. I have seen only two posters do that repeatedly over the years--Midgley over at the Afore's, and Mentalgymnast, here.Limnor wrote: ↑Wed Mar 18, 2026 11:23 amThank you my friend. It’s starting to feel like you need a temple recommend to be allowed to talk to you. Is this part of the “god-in-training” thing?MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 18, 2026 9:14 pmDuh!

Yeah he seems to want to paint a different story.
He characterized it as “I don’t want to put myself out there as I did with Limnor and then find out that from the very beginning I wasn’t trusted.”
He didn’t “find out” later that I didn’t trust him. I told him straight up from the beginning that I didn’t trust him.
I’m not sure what he thinks that spin means—maybe he is implying that I tricked him or something—but nope I told him from the get go.

Re: The artificial intelligence MEGATHREAD
Assuming that "Duh!" has its usual meaning - that is, I was unnecessarily stating the obvious - I was under the impression that you were ceding to me the decision about you putting me on ignore:
I was simply passing the decision back to you, where it belongs.MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 16, 2026 8:22 pm...
Hi malkie, if you're not opposed to it I would like to take you off of ignore and be able to read and respond to you now and then. Truthfully, you don't have the same pattern(s) of behavior as the others listed in the ignore list that I find impossible to do any kind of a 'work-a-round' with.
If you are opposed to that, let me know. I'd like to give it another shot. Up to you. I know you may have issues with my posting style, etc., but if you don't find it too disconcerting...we can keep the channel open.
...
I don't believe I ever said I was putting you on ignore (that is, on my Foes List) or that I committed to not communicating with you. I could be wrong, but it doesn't matter enough to me to go back and look.MG wrote: A while back I think you had put me on ignore and had committed to not communicating with me. What I intended to say, and thought that I did say was that I intended not to respond directly to you. Unfortunately that becomes a bit impractical to maintain strictly.
My life experience has been such that I generally may trust someone for some things and not for others, or for most things but not necessarily all. I try not to be an all-or-nothing, black-and-white thinker. You are not an exception to my experience. Nor am I.MG wrote: There are a number who I absolutely do not trust as a result of their proven track record. You're not one of them. I still have that element of trust in your case. I keep getting the feeling that you're trying, over and over, to have me commit to a level of trustworthiness towards you that I find impossible to maintain for my dealings with myself. Yes, you express it in terms of "a modicum", or "half way serious/respectful", but I know how it makes me feel. As I said before, we have a shared history on this board - sometimes we've responded directly to each other, and we have also seen each other's interactions with third parties. If that doesn't give a basis on which to make a decision, I don't know what I could say, and am willing to say, that would do so.MG wrote: I just feel better about my own use of time if I'm communicating with someone that I think is at least half way serious/respectful and I can discuss things with them at that common meeting point.
It's not my responsibility to make you feel better about your use of time. So please stop bothering me about this kind of personal decision, and take responsibility for making up your own mind. I say that with all due respect and sincerity.

I wish I had written something down a few months ago, and mailed it to myself. My memories of my perceptions at the time may bear little or no resemblance to reality, but here they are, for your entertainment.Limnor wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2026 12:05 amYeah he seems to want to paint a different story.

When you (re)appeared on the board, declaring that you believed that the Book of Mormon was "true", If I recall correctly, MG responded very positively to you - like you were now a fellow defender of the faith. After seeing a few of your posts I came to the conclusion that MG was heading for a painful experience of disillusionment, accompanied with a feeling of betrayal, when he recognised that "true" for you was, potentially at least, nothing like "true" for him.
