I’ll try my question to MG, again. Instead of long, drawn out posts whining about how badly he’s being treated by people he claims to be ignoring, maybe he’ll deign continue the conversation he started:

For reference, MG, this was the post I was responding to, when I wrote the above question.
MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2026 4:07 amYour expectations may be too high. If you have lower expectations you're never disappointed. Or at least not to the point of rejecting leaders because you find out they are human.
Putting them on a pedestal of infallibility, for any reason, ends up in disappointment.
How many times in the scriptures have we read something to the effect that God chooses the weak things of the world to do His work and confound "the mighty".
What might that mean? Ever thought about it?

Ha! I forgot about your question with all the hullabaloo. I think that's about wrapped up. From comments it appears little will change.
Anyway, strong things might be the worldly powers and institutions that rely on secular power and have turned away from religious beliefs or practice. It might refer to the "wise," "noble," and "mighty" of the earth...nations, governments, and philosophies that rely on that secular power. Intellectual pride and arrogance may play into it.
The Book of Mormon refers often to the "Arm of Flesh" which represents those who trust in their own strength or human systems rather than God. When the "weak" thrash the "mighty" it may be a symbolic way of saying that the simple truths of the gospel will dismantle the complex, proud structures of the world.
I don't.think this all happens "suddenly". It would more than likely be a slow and gradual process. Don't want to take the high and mighty completely by surprise now, do we?
What are your thoughts? Who do you think the "strong things" might be referring to?
The leaders of the church have not always been those that are part of the strong and mighty class that I've referred to. Especially in areas that are important to the 'doubting class'. Theological training. Academic training in the sciences, etc. Here and there, yes. More often leaders tend to be from the business/law fields rather than psychology, anthropology, archeology, social sciences, physics, and the like.
That would be evidence, to some, that they are "weak" in the knowledge that might confound religious world view as being rational, etc.
Hope that helps.

The “simple truths of the gospel” have never confounded the disciplines of “psychology, anthropology, archeology, social sciences, physics, and the like.” Nor are they ever going to. The “simple truths of the gospel” have never confounded the “nations, governments, and philosophies that rely on secular power.” Nor are they ever going to. The pride and arrogance that you accuse others of possessing is all yours, my friend. You sound exactly like the mullahs ruling Iran. They believe that the “simple truths” of their gospel will do the same.
Never does. Never will.

How is your attitude regarding this any different from that of the present leaders of Iran?
Or the leader of, say, Jonestown?

Ha! Not sore at all. And no, you didn’t give your thoughts.
How is pointing out that Mormonism hasn’t overturned the tenets of science or secular democracies hubris?
Here’s your chance to really present your thoughts.

Re: Handbook Change-Women SS Presidents
It's really not all that complicated. Above and beyond what I've already said I would simply say that those that have faith in the Savior and in His gospel do so with 'the faith of a child. The so called mighty and strong may find that very difficult.
It's not blind faith. We have evidence and experience that supercedes the 'arm of the flesh:, so to speak. This is a hard thing for some. This is where the weak things essentially overpower with humility and the Spirit. In other words, the things of God can only be understood by the Spirit of God and not the spirit of the mortal man.
Many are not able to deal with that and end up rejecting truth. I realize that may sound like foolish to you. The world will do what it does. God will do what He does along with those that will follow Him.

MG
