Not related but: In my quest to source Book of Mormon names I was reminded that many of the proper names found in the Book of Mormon were cribbed from the Bible and/or apocryphal.. Such names as Nephi, Ether, Enos, Esrom, Gad, Helem, Helam, Heth, Kish, Laban, Lemuel, Nimrah, Nimrod, to name just a few.

Some names may have been cribbed from the Bible, sure, like those you mention. But there are other names across the body of “revelations and translations” that look more like disguised companion names. Oliver/Olihah for example, and the code names from the D&C. A phonetic similarity isn’t proof, of course, but if the similar-sounding character also occupies a role similar to a real person, then it seems like more than coincidence.

The book simply reads differently to me when you substitute code names with real world counterparts.
