It’s unfortunate that Joe Rogan is still so popular and influential but yes that’s a big win for Dan.
I think part of Dan’s rising popularity is his refreshing honesty, knowledge, and lack of any agenda to push any particular narrative.

I am sure Mormonism was off the table. I watched about half of it so I am not sure if Joe breached it but he had a lot to say about cults which probably made Dan a little uncomfortable. Joe has often talked about the absurd amount of money Mormon leaders have collected.

It is refreshing to hear the voice of an active and church attending believer...
see beginning of video:

...make his voice available/known in the larger venue of voices.
He is a bonafide intellectual.
I've enjoyed his book. Good for him and good for the larger audience to hear his voice.
We've been discussing "deep thinkers". He fits the bill.

MG

Proposed thesis question: Is the sudden emphasis on “deep thinkers” a defensive response to perceived intellectual marginalization of Mormons?

Fibber,
I actually agree with you. Dan McClellan is a brilliant thinker. He’s just brilliant enough to systematically dismantle any remaining hope for a historical Book of Mormon:

Re: Dan McClellan On The Joe Rogan Show
I think Dan is doing some very interesting research. But I’d stop short of labelling him “a believer”. He argues that the available historical and scholarly evidence points to the Book of Mormon being a 19th century work, rather than an ancient historical record. However, he also argues that people can still find religious, moral, and spiritual value in scripture without accepting every story as historical fact.Everybody Wang Chung wrote: ↑Sun Oct 11, 2026 4:44 pmI actually agree with you. If the Book of Mormon is a 19th century work, then it isn’t what it claims to be and the Church isn’t what it claims to be. A lot of things fall out of bed once you start accepting that it’s a fictional tale generated by Joseph and perhaps others for the purpose of setting themselves up in the religion business.
Dan is very credible. His work is very solid. And those things will be of concern to the Church because it will erode the faith church leaders seek from members.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.
