These two trolls are only pretending to have a legitimate concern. They are here to troll the board, and Shades, unfortunately, has decided to accommodate them. It’s unfortunate but Shades holds the power and apparently he has decided that the trolls have a point. Any legitimate, serious analysis of trolling would note that the two trolls are taking advantage of Shades’ “free speech” position, to the detriment of the board.

Shades made the same mistake with his Mentalgymnast “Jubilee,” the end result being that we did not hear from our friend Grindael during the last year of his life. This lack of understanding on his part of the damage done by trolls is in no way excused by his free speech commitment. There are ways to maintain free speech without letting trolls destroy a community. Shades has apparently chosen to not investigate that, but his choice is not acceptable as a position that benefits our society as a whole.

In my opinion, all we can do is ignore the trolls, and hope Shades’ actions don’t result in another friend of ours spending the last year of his life elsewhere.
Why on God's green earth would you post this here? With that thread title? You simply don't have any concept of boundaries do you? Is there anything that's off limits to you? Is there anything you will not use to support your personal agenda? You should be ashamed of yourself!

MY God!

(I always enjoyed reading posts by Grindael and I am saddened to learn of his passing)

If I’m understanding the tiers correctly, then this thread should be sent back to the kingdom from which it came. That forum is specifically meant for unfiltered discussion.

As my Mormon friends always say, Mormon Doctrine clearly teaches there is no progression between kingdoms. This incursion is most blasphemous!

That's not how the rules are written.
RULES FOR THE TERRESTRIAL FORUM AND THE SPIRIT PARADISE FORUM:
1.Keep all communications "Rated PG" to "Rated PG-13" or better.
2.No blatant or otherwise obvious personal attacks allowed. This includes personal attacks against a person's family members.
3.No specific temple content allowed.
I think you are thinking of these forums:
RULES FOR THE TELESTIAL FORUM AND THE SPIRIT PRISON FORUM:
1.Keep all communications "Rated R" to "Rated NC-17" or better. In other words, no blatantly pornographic words or images.
2.No personal attacks against a person's family members.
The trolling doesn't belong here or in Spirit Paradise.
As my Mormon friends always say, Mormon Doctrine clearly teaches there is no progression between kingdoms. This incursion is most blasphemous!

I rarely venture outside of the terrestrial forum, because when I do I'm often like "what the fu c k are we talking about".
I'm re-feeling that now. Out on limb but this sounds like stuff bourne from political battles.

We did not hear from our friend Grindael during the last year of his life because of trolling on this board. There are ways to maintain free speech without letting trolls destroy a community, but without moderation all we can do is ignore the trolls.

Did he ever state this specifically here?

I agree it’s possible that may have been the reason but did he make it explicit?

Absolutely! His final long post on the matter was heart-breaking. He was trolled for many, many years here by an anonymous jerk. His in real life details were known because he was very active in the Mormon historian community, and he frequently posted his ongoing research here. The troll took advantage of that, and incessantly hassled and mocked his online persona but worse, made very untrue and disparaging comments about his in real life accomplishments until he was in despair. He had things in print and a community of historians he communicated with and he felt the trolling was a personal attack that negatively impacted his in real life.

I'll see if I can get a copy of his statement about the damage the trolling did to him out of our increasingly damaged old board. We were very lucky to see his research work in action, and it was a huge pleasure to see how his thought process played out as he developed papers. We lost his last year of that for one reason only, unfettered trolling.

Dr. Shades, thank you again for allowing me the freedom of speech on your board. The way I understand the rules so far is we are allowed to let our hair down while posting in spirit paradise while here in the terrestrial we should mind our manners and be respectful with the content we post. Again, I enjoy reading content from this forum and have no desire to post here. But I'm not going to let Lem call me a troll in the terrestrial forum and not respond to her accusations. Lem, please keep this in spirit paradise! There's no need to recruit posters from the terrestrial to help you down in spirit paradise. The terrestrial forum is a wonderful place for Mormons and non-Mormons to come and learn about Mormonism! Why infect the terrestrial forum with the disease found in spirit paradise?

This does seem a bit like brigading. Also, Dr. Peterson used to be a poster here ages ago and suffered a similar heckling which continues to this day. Should we not be allowed to continue discussing Dr. Peterson’s professional failings either?

I hate to sound like I'm speaking ill of Grindael, but that dude he had such a problem with was as harmless and as inept as a roly-poly bug. I don't find blaming a troll all that helpful. I'd have no idea on what basis Shades should have stepped in.
