Nope. I have no need for nor am I interested in getting supporters. And your defining serious reactions to the problems disruptive trolls bring to an online community as a "little spat" is hilarious. Not helpful, but hilarious.
It's insider baseball. I and many others who read this subforum had no idea what was going on, and were quite happy that way. We don't even have the context to know what is being talked about. It seems clear that shades set up the off topic forum to be lightly moderated, very intentionally so. But I'll agree that if it's "Lord of the Flies" down there and there's zero moderation, that's a problem.

If you had made a thread solely as a tribute to Grin, or as an abstract lament on trolling in general, I'd be right there with you. But I'm not sure why you're pushing back on the idea that this was something between you and the two others in this thread that spilled over here to get shades attention. The minute you posted this they were right here continuing whatever argument had been going on over there.

Then you don't know much about my posting history. On the other board I had several lengthy threads tracing the academic research on discussion forum trolling and the recommended best practices. I've commented on the effects of trolling and talked about the damage it can do for years.

I don't interact much anymore with the two new trolls because it is quite clear they are only here to disrupt, but I do read both forums, and I see the damage they continue to do. Multiple threads with great content have been swallowed up, including, unfortunately, those where people have shared how the pandemic has effected their areas, and it's not pretty. Your 'Lord of the Flies' description is exactly right. Also, it seems some people continue to be under the impression that the rules are different for the two subforums, even though Shades' official rules clearly state that is not the case. Unfortunately, there is also zero moderation at the moment in any subforum, and I agree it is a problem.

Then I would call for Shades to fix this ASAP. There are plenty of posters here who would be happy to do it for free, I'm sure.

It's not just the right thing to do, it's also a necessary way for Shades to avoid liability for anything illegal posted here.

Before me and the other guy you went after subgenius and Ajax18. You can't stand posters who won't bow down to you.

Jersey Girl wrote:We're down to one moderator who is hardly ever here. Gadianton isn't a moderator. In my opinion, the Paradise Forum is turning into Lord of the Flies on account of the fact that we don't have a functional mod team in place. I don't expect to see the board covered 24/7 but I would like to see it be moderated according to the Board Rules that are in place.

That isn't happening right now and we shouldn't have to wade through garbage to read the topics when there are Board Rules that cover most offenses that take place here.
Sounds like everyone can at least agree the place needs better moderation.
If nothing else, this OP represents a cautionary tale. What happened in Terrestrial re: Grindael is now happening in Paradise. In Grindael's case, he left of his own accord. In the case of Paradise, it is starting to bleed regular contributors.

Better moderation? Let me put it this way, if right this very day, someone were to post your in real life there would be no mod team in place, one of whose members would likely be present or shortly present, to take the report.

by the way, posting in real life with no mod present or shortly present to take the report is exactly what happened during the end times of the previous board. The one we migrated from to here.

These types of issues aren't the problem of any one forum. They are the problem of anyone who posts here, who wishes to join and post here, regardless of which forum they take an interest in. LDSFAQS was queued and limited to the Prison forum for far less than what has been happening in Paradise for the past, I'd say, two weeks now if not more than two weeks. The case of LDSFAQS is the last time I recall Shades taking board disruptions seriously and let's just say, it's been a minute.

Didn't LDSfaqs also lean a little to the right politically? Why is it the conservative or moderate posters are always being attacked on this board? Lem is upset because I gave as good as I got from doc cam and some schmo. She's perfectly fine with those two insulting other posters but God forbid if a new guy attempts to do the same.

No. I disagree.

And what do you agree needs better moderation?

We need posters to smash the hell out bad behavior and contribute good content. If this a forum for Doc Cam to be a bigot, own it.
I addressed this issue in Paradise. Do you have selective amnesia?

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=351&p=34055&hilit=a ... ate#p34055

I, earlier, addressed it directly with you when I coached you about how to avoid derailing existing threads by creating a new thread for that purpose to call out the offending poster if that were your intent.

If you were a legit poster, you would have read the board rules. You asked where the board rules where. I advised you on how to locate them. I reposted your flippant response in a post on this very thread. This board has a history of welcoming new posters and giving them a leg up.

You have proven yourself not to be a person who takes a legit interest in the topical matter posted on this board. You have proven yourself to be an excuse-making attention seeker. For the record, I don't have you on ignore. It's no more difficult for me to ignore your off topic ravings than it is for me to ignore the screams of a child in tantrum.

I thought you claimed to have read hundreds of posts on this board? The previous board is still accessible. You can read about the mod action taken against LDSFAQS over there and the lengthy debate as to whether or not his participation should be limited, as well as examining his relocated posts to see the evidence of what those decisions were based on.

LDSFAQS was never a new guy to this board community.

Thanks for the advice to call for Shades to fix this ASAP. Are you another who fails to read? This situation has been ongoing for at least two weeks time. If I am not mistaken I noted two threads that appear in Paradise authored by myself. A new call for mods and an older call for mods that I bumped up from December 2020.

In other words, it's already been done. Presently and in the past. And also during the end times of the previous version of MDB.
