What I am about to say will undoubtedly not be popular, but so be it.

I really liked grindael. His posts were always a treat, even when I did not agree with him. I am very sad he has passed on.

But this mentalgymnast situation was always puzzling to me. It looked to me that grindael just let mentalgymnast get his goat.

Now, I have been there myself many times. Do I let people annoy me and get under my skin? Yes.

But it could be that grindael actually left for reasons that included things other than mentalgymnast.

The situation we find ourselves in now is a little different. Now we have people who come around obnoxiously spouting what many if not most of us interpret to be fascist garbage and conspiracy theories. I find such people to be as appealing as hosting known criminals. Mind you, I don’t call them criminals. I am talking about my subjective feelings regarding their impression on me.

We need adequate moderation in Spirit Paradise. We also don’t want Spirit Paradise to leak into the Mormon boards. I ask that someone responsible volunteer to moderate in SP, if we want to keep it.
With attention sufficiently gained for issues of rule violations, perhaps this thread should be taken to Paradise, and any necessary actions regarding board behavior there dealt with accordingly. I agree it's unacceptable if any unmoderated rule violations lead to folks leaving the board for mental health or self protection.

Interesting thread development. It seems that the rules for the Terrestrial and Paradise forums are considered to be different, in spite of Shades' written rules saying the are the same. At least, this seems to be the assessment according to a number of people who have been here much longer than I have.

Grindael's single troll made his life miserable, mostly in this forum because of his topics, and the new kids now seem bent on destroying an entire subforum in a similar manner. I thought we had rules, but I will concede to those here longer than me that the unwritten rules do seem to be different.

Without knowing what the rules actually are, its hard to say what a moderated board would look like, but unmoderated trolling certainly is ruining conversation. It's sad to see history repeating itself.

On an individual level, it seems all one can do is use the blocking feature.

Go post on MD&D for a while or Sic et Non. I posted on both forums and had my fill of one-sided moderation. Calm, Scott Lloyd, DCP, Midge are examples of when moderation goes bad. In general, I think moderators are human and will ultimately take sides to the detriment of free speech if too much moderation is demanded. What is correct speech and should moderators be policing this? I can live with MG and others. Too bad Grindael and Sock Puppet left because of him. However, perhaps there was something more to it as the good Reverend suggested? Doxxing, personal threats, etc. should be regulated, but, beyond that, we should allow people to make their comments. People should be respectful and act as adults, but, anonymity allows for childishness to creep in. I guess it is part of the beauty of free speech. I'll take little or no moderation any day.

Liar!

Put up, or shut up.
Bud, perhaps a thicker skin is needed? Just a suggestion.

(Ceeboo wrote something here - then deleted it. Ceeboo wrote something else here - then deleted it too. Decided to refrain and keep it short)

Please stop making that suggestion, Lem. At best, it's not fair to Grindael's memory nor is it a "tribute" to him." At worst, it's ........................

Have you actually read any of the posts that the "new kids" have made recently? Obviously not because if you had, you would recognize how utterly ridiculous this post is.

Was that directed at me? My skin is too thick.

What the hell good would a thicker skin do to address the insane insinuations Lem repeats? I think you need a thicker skin, Bud. If calling a lie a lie is a problem for you, are you prepared for someone calling a potato a potato?
Yes. In the end you aren't going to be banned and Doc and the others will continue with their posting style. So, learn to live with it.

Based on my research into trolling, I think moderation is considerably harder than it looks. One of the most interesting discussion papers I read got into how difficult it is to moderate based on an individual post, and how strategic trolls can be to get around that. But, expecting moderators to take action based on overarching patterns and not individual sentences gets very very tricky. I would repost some of my research, but since the only place to do that is in SP which is currently overrun by this exact problem, I probably won’t. The irony.

Brilliant, just brilliant!! You start a thread titled, '"A tribute to Grindael" then the first three words in your post are " these two trolls"! You knew exactly what was going to happen! You and you alone brought this crap to the terrestrial forum. Again, you're upset Dr shades didn't give you the answer you were hoping for in spirit paradise, so you thought, I'm going to take this to the terrestrial, yeah!! I'm sorry, but that's extremely selfish of you to bring this "fight" to the terrestrial to try and make Dr shades change his decision.
Lem. If I start a thread in spirit paradise so you and I can talk about this, will you talk to me? That way we can leave these fine people alone and let them get back to figuring out Mormonism. I really do think this can be resolved.

Even better! Lets get this resolved. Lem, do you think anyone here would like to join us on a thread in spirit paradise kinda acting as a mediator?? If so, you can pick, I don't care who it is. Also, if you want, why don't you start the thread and I'll join in. I'm willing to talk this out.

Again. STOP THIS crap. This is NOT Spirit Paradise. We are having good conversations ABOUT Mormon TOPICS here in the TERRESTRIAL GODDAMNIT. Take the bickering elsewhere. THIS IS NOT THE PLACE.

GODDAMNIT STOP THIS! Take your personal ideas to Spirit Paradise. This is for Mormon TOPICS. What part of that do you not understand? QUIT POSTING HERE if you cannot discuss something about Mormonism we can all learn from and enjoy. Terrestrial forum is NOT for personal tits and tats.
