I think we’d do either one of those men a huge disservice to think they were chased off the board. Honor and I, as far as I’m aware are fine - in fact, I admire his cogent posting style. I think he got a little assed out on the Nelson thread, but I’m not sure that was a motivation to reduce his posting. He did mentioned something to the effect that the cost-benefit of posting wasn’t working for him, anymore. But he’s free to clarify his reasoning for not posting, of course.

I would be fascinated to see this discussion of the costs vs. benefits of posting. In my opinion, his posting changed dramatically at some point, but then I don’t read all forums so maybe I missed something. Any explanation would be worth reading.

Honor is cool. This post on the ‘Crazy Progressives’ thread was fairly typical for his style:

He generally put a lot of thought into his posts (let’s take the spat on the Doors of Death thread of the table for a moment), they were layered, philosophical, and readable. I mean, he’s still posting, but I get a poster wanting to take a step back or time off. It’s the natural ebb and flow of a discussion forum, I think.

As I read the rules for Spirit Paradise, it seems we have 2 of the 3 rules being consistently violated lately.

1. Keep all communications "Rated PG" to "Rated PG-13" or better.
2. No blatant or otherwise obvious personal attacks allowed.

My personal hope is that this can happen primarily through self moderation. Far too many posts in this forum are obviously out of line with rules 1 or 2 or both.

Throw in the derail rule and I think you’ve got a complete set.

Well, I'm not a moderator and have no interest in becoming one. It appears as if Paradise is being used as if it were Prison, which I would speculate is an untenable situation.

I agree on both counts. What once were vices now are habits.

If I may be so bold as to repeat myself repeatedly, here are my thoughts. In order.

1. The board needs an active mod team.
2. With a mod team in place, a moderator directive needs to be posted on this forum directing posters to get in line with the rules.
3. Following that, the existing threads that have been decimated in this forum need to be wholesale relocated to Prison.

I've offered my ongoing V&T thread as sacrifice as a show of good faith and also made a different type of offer to Shades. Not disclosing. If I had mod keys right now, I wouldn't bother myself with splits. I would move entire threads as stated above which would take all of I dunno, two minutes.

Two minutes of work is all that is needed to clear the field. Two lousy minutes.

There is no way to maintain the board without a mod team in place. In it's first week (?) of operation, I posted in Terrestrial that this new board was getting spammed. That was taken care of in short order.

This isn't a newly developed interest on my part. I called for help during the end times of the previous board. I called for a mod team on this board back in Dec 2020. I've recently called for a mod team again. I am addressing the need for a mod team right in this very thread. I will continue to press for a mod team until and unless Shades rejects the idea thus giving trolls carte blanche.

I read this board nearly every day of my life though I have certainly intermittently opted out. I've done so ever since it saw the light of day, four versions ago. I can't make myself sit here and watch what was born out of discussions back on a different board all those years ago, that people encouraged, waited for in great anticipation, cheered on, defended, and fought for, go to hell like it is without trying to remedy the situation.

Spamming, trolling, derailments aren't new. We just need a mod team to clean up the place, issue a directive, monitor, and move forward.
