Here was another fine tribute to Grindael:

Here was another fine soul. A person of great creativity, talent, passion, and intelligence: grindael. We were fortunate to have him on our board. I also enjoyed following his contributions to the Mormon Historians Facebook group. Sometimes I argued with him pretty heatedly, but I knew his heart was in the right place. His research was so important for our understanding of Mormon polygamy. Things that other scholars missed, grindael would put together. I wish he had been able to publish his work formally. As it is, much of his stuff is in danger of being lost.

We miss you, brother. You were among the best of us, and now you are gone. God speed, if you are out there.

Just to wrap up this tribute to our friend:

When I left the church, I was extremely busy and overwhelmed with real life, so I let the Mormon topics go. However, I was raised and fully indoctrinated into this religion, so when I found this forum about 7 years ago, I was naturally fascinated by the research on Mormon topics.

Grindael was especially fascinating to read, because not only did he report on his findings, but he posted real-time fascinating expositions on his process and method, live discussions of his discoveries in various archives, and conversations he brought here with other historians. He re-awakened in me an appreciation for the history of my youth.

His self-portrait, posted before on this board:

ETA: I see while I was posting this, doc cam posted the same self-portrait! So happy to see appreciation for your friend.

Philo, I asked about these things in this thread already but you didn't reply so I thought I would give it another go:

GODDAMNIT STOP THIS! Take your personal ideas to Spirit Paradise. This is for Mormon TOPICS. What part of that do you not understand? QUIT POSTING HERE if you cannot discuss something about Mormonism we can all learn from and enjoy. Terrestrial forum is NOT for personal tits and tats.
Do you know who started this thread? Do you know who brought this thread here to this forum? If you do, why are you continuing to address other people? If you object (which I can certainly understand) why on earth aren't you directing your objections (including the capital letters) to the person that is 100% responsible for bringing this entire discussion here?

And - Again, why are you using all of those capital letters?

I see Ceeboo has decided to stick with derailing this thread. I don’t believe he’s read one thing about Grindael on this thread:

ANYWAY.

BACK TO THE TOPIC.

For this of you that’d enjoy a masterful takedown of Brian Hales’ nonsense I highly recommend reading this from Grindael:

https://mormonitemusings.wordpress.com/ ... my-part-3/

He demonstrates how disingenuous Hales is, and artfully points out where Hales lies about Runnells, omits relevant information, and makes assertions up out of whole cloth. Mopologists are garbage.

Here are the creative works authored by grin that I transferred to the new archives. While you all were appreciating his Mormon related work, I was drinking in his lyricism. I needed to transfer the work quickly in case the old board became too corrupted to locate them so I transferred as top priority. Each transferred thread contains grin's avatar and all of his imagery and ends with my favorite image of grindael. There's a fourth thread that remains unfinished but only because I needed permission from someone else about a certain issue which took a while for me to get and then, I guess, the pandemic took my attention.

viewtopic.php?f=9&t=9&start=50
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=12
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=8

I'll end this post the way I ended all of the above transfers.

This thread started as an argument about the state of the off-topic forum. The "tribute" part of the thread was tacked on later.

Complaining about the discussion of the original topic seems very disingenuous. Something an apologist would do. You should stop gaslighting like that.

If Lem wanted to make a tribute thread to Grendael, that would be awesome. But it would have been very different to the way this thread was created.

Yeah, the purpose of this thread was clearly not *just* or even *primarily* about a tribute to grindael. That said, I am happy to see all of the lovely tributes that have been added.

If I can't manage while seeing comments I'd rather not read, I'd likely find myself elsewhere. I'm not recommending anyone leave. And while I make that initial statement if I'd have left I'd have missed much of what I appreciate about this place.

If people aren't using the ignore feature on this site, then they can at least learn to mentally ignore posts. If posters want to talk about a ton of various things in Spirit Paradise, I mean, I say more power to you. If I think the comments suck over there, I'll likely not even show up to tell anyone. I popped in once since I saw this thread and realized what we're talking about and didn't even read a thread, so I'm just claiming ignorance all around.

Grindael was an interesting cat, and I enjoyed his posts.
