No, you're supposed to engage it. With your brain. Or ignore it as the case may be.
But still, you haven't ignored. I think it's funny you don't believe me! What have I said that's unbelievable?? Gee whiz, yesterday you guys gave me grief because I left my house at 3:30am and made it to the beach and in the water by 5:30. And some how you guys found that unbelievable?? I've been doing that ever since I could drive. Same with fishing and hunting. We will get up at 3am during hunting season all the time, it's not a big deal. But to you guys, you make a huuuuge deal out of it. Here, I'll throw you a bone, there's a few videos on you tube that I'm in. If you want to search, look through night surfing videos and listen really closely. You'll see me if you find the correct video. As for the bishop asking me to move to the back, I hadn't thought about for a while. But you and Lem/calm keep saying you're going to ignore me but for some reason you never do!!! I guess that's why I thought about the whole move to the back story. But dang!! If you're going to ignore me than do it!!

Oh for god sakes. Whatever you said. Learn to read and engage your brain. If you have one.

Okay fine. But only if you make me. Schmo isn't the only person who used the word. A cursory word search would have revealed that is the case. Add trolls are lazy to the list of traits.

And that is why they fail. They don't study the territory they're entering. No one falls for their schtick because they know better.

Add trolls are delusional to the list of traits.
Also add to the list of traits that at least one of our trolls thinks he is… um… pretty.

Pretty sure I have a crown pattern in my files.
I think we are there.
I'll check my files. If I don't have one I can go nick one from Burger King later today.

One of our trolls, Cultellus, has now deleted virtually all of his posts (approx 990).

Nothing says troll more than the unwillingness to stand behind one’s posts.

We wish you well, WaterDog. Or whoever’s sock puppet you were.

All I really can do is describe how I think about trolling. I don't think it matters to someone who is trolling whether someone else did the same thing. That would assume that the troller is interested in fairness. I don't think trollers are interested in fairness. So, I don't think of them as lazy. They do what they need to do to accomplish their goals. And I'd disagree that no one falls for their schtick. As I see it, if you spend time digging up everyone who has ever used the same word as Schmo and then posting that information, you've fallen for their schtick. Any time I respond at all to a trolling post, I've fallen for the schtick to some extent. Their whole schtick is to generate a reaction that destroys the ability to have a conversation. They crave feedback. Doesn't matter whether it's positive or negative. Dopamine hits are dopamine hits.

The only way not to fall for the schtick is the War Games response.

Again, just the way I think about it: playing with trolls is also falling for their schtick, but it's also something that some folks enjoy. And those who enjoy playing with trolls tend be pretty self aware about what they are doing, in my experience. I don't want to give the impression that I judge it as anything bad. I don't enjoy knitting, either. But I don't think knitters are bad.

Shows the double standard you liberals hold. I tell you a real simple story about a trip to the outer Banks and you guys make it this complicated thing trying to figure when the sunrises, how fuckin stupid is that. Then today, I tell you a story about what happened to me with a bishop an that's considered a lie also. It seems to me I'm not the one with the problem!! You guys are a cult, I'm telling you you guys remind me of orthodox Mormons that can't believe anything that's not from approved sources or approved people. It's group think at it's best. I can't believe I'm the only one that can see that.

The current academic research on trolling would disagree with you about the War Games response. Trolls consider it a win not only when they are engaged with, but also when they are able to silence voices. To use the example atlanticmike tried on me, if misogynistic attacks silence the voices of the women who are specifically attacked, the trolls see that as a win. Speaking up against such attacks is not ‘falling for their schtick,’ but rather standing up to and defeating it.

Trolls cannot be allowed to drive people into silence. Speaking up is not for everyone, of course, but I for one am grateful for those who do. Including you, RI. You spoke up several times. I don’t see you as falling for their schtick, I see it as you, among other posters, standing up for all.
