I guarantee you that half of the folks in this room see me as an opinionated, obnoxious idiot, at least half of the time. How could they not?

I am here purely for my own amusement (and to learn from others), so that really doesn’t matter to me. But I’ll always opt for decency in any exchange.

That said, this board has a full roster of excellent, thoughtful people participating. You may not always like their politics, but they’ll be happy to respectfully debate any coherent argument.

No one is forcing you to talk politics, Mike. And you mostly just link and run on political topics, so it's not much of a discussion. Just don't talk politics. I haven't put you on ignore so far, but I read very little of what you write because so much of it is trolling nonsense.

Everyone here may be crazy. But we're certainly not crazy in lock step. There's all kinds of crazy here. And I would lay odds that the people you lump me with are people I've had knock down drag out fights with on the board. But the "damned crazy" you described has nothing to do with being "liberals." If you want to have real discussions with people, I'd suggest that you stop using "liberal" or "progressive" to mean "person who said something I disagree with." Hell, Jersey Girl isn't politically liberal at all. Except maybe to Trumpers who think RINOs are liberals.

Politically, Paradise tends to be dominated by confrontational people with extreme views, just like most political forums in the US. There have been periods when it (including the off topic forum) was dominated by extreme conservative voices. I mean, there are so few of us here, it takes only one or two people to shift the balance. Again, you're relatively new here, but you apparently haven't read thread after thread where Doc Cam trolled the crap out of liberals and their views. So, if Paradise is anyone's "wet dream," it's folks who want to be able to have a conversation about just about any topic. And, when we have moderators that enforce the rules as written, it does a much better job of that. In fact, the folks that you identify as being shouted down would gain the most if moderation were restored and the rules enforced.

As a practical matter, if you want people to engage with you on substance, you've got to stop trolling. Because your troll and not troll "voices" here are very hard to tell apart. And you haven't made any effort here to earn the benefit of the doubt when you claim that something that sounds trollish is something you intended to be serious.

It's a hard skill to learn, sometimes, but don't let what other people post dictate how you post. If you think Lem's crazy, you don't have to respond to her. You can place her on ignore. Same goes with anyone else. Put your little boxes labeled "conservative" and "liberal" way and just interact with people without slapping labels on them. If you don't understand what they're saying, ditch the emojis, ask questions, and try to understand. But only do all that if you want people to take you seriously enough to have a serious discussion with you. If you don't, keep on keeping on.

There's absolutely no way for serious discussion on this forum. None what so ever. In the terrestrial yes. Here, absolutely not.

Of course there is a way. Serious discussions have occurred and are still occurring, albeit interrupted by disruptive trolling. Perhaps it's you that cannot have a serious discussion of anything you think has something to do with politics.
