Should we bring back a moderator team?

Thanks for the perspective, Gad. If I recall correctly, the old logo had two speech bubbles, representing a Mormon and a non-Mormon hurling an insult at each other. And the slogan was “Yes, you can say that here.”

In the first version, you could get an entire thread jettisoned from Terrestrial to Telestial, by simply swearing in your posts. I am sure some posters took advantage of that, not that I would know. Now we have a word censor to handle the matter so swearing itself isn't a huge issue unless someone cuts loose in Celestial.

But yeah, the knock down drag out and call outs, belong in Telestial and Prison, or at least a new topic thread where mods can relocate them to those two forums.

Hardly anyone follows that protocol these days. Instead they derail the topical threads. I recently raised just that very issue in Paradise. It's a simple courtesy to the community, admin, and mods.

Posters can cut down on the need for moderation by simply following the rules and standards for each forum.

The irony of this is beautiful. Metaphors work because they can be interpreted to favor just about anything. The Bible is a metaphor packed with metaphors. The Book of Mormon too. So seeing the apologists' critic using metaphors is hysterical to me.

I voted yes because I like the way this board is set up. It would be nice to see people keep the rules in the Forums because everyone has a place to be in a comfortable environment.

I was very offended by Dr. Exiled posting a picture of temple robes in the Terrestrial Forum. I come here for conversation not for people to be rude and set out to make fun of the most sacred things in another person's religion. Maybe there would be fewer things like that popping up here if more moderators were on the job.

If it’s still there, please report it to Gad and he’ll delete it. The temple content rules are a practical necessity for LDS folks to be willing to participate in this venue.

Shades values the clash of ideas. And, to encourage the clash, he has set up different arenas with different rules. You want an Oxford style debate, start it in Celestial. Marquis of Queensbury Rules? Terrestial. No holds barred, knock down drag out almost anything goes? Telestial.

The main dysfunction in the system is the reluctance to start threads in Telestial/Prison. If you want to start a “All Trumptards/Libertards are brain dead morons thread, why not start it in Prison. Despite its name, it’s not penal cooling and having posts moved there isn’t punishment. It’s the perfect area when you’re spoiling for a fight.

Instead, folks post Prison stuff in Paradise and (less often lately) Telestial stuff in Terrestrial. So, 90% of a moderator’s time here is spent moving posts from one bin to another. With a few exceptions, the speech is preserved.

Not surprising. Make a rule and someone will devote time and effort to exploit it.

I have a different view of the swearing issue. The rule for Paradise is PG to PG-13. Using R rated language in Paradise breaks the general content rules.

in my opinion, unforced rules breed disrespect for the rules. in my opinion, either enforce the rule as written or write a swearing exceptions into the content rules. I’m happy either way. But having a rule but ignoring it because of an imperfect word censor undermines respect for the rules as a whole.

What’s interesting is a couple of comments were made about it being inappropriate given the rules and the poster voluntarily removed the image. I actually didn’t recall the temple content rule also applied to Terrestrial, and not just Celestial; it’s possible the poster thought the same, but upon hearing about it, he modified his post.
