The Pittsburgh Penguins, valued at $650M, received a $4.82M COVID loan. That’s nice the Republicans are giving tax payer money to billionaires. The Paycheck Protection Program is a loan designed to provide a direct incentive for small businesses to keep their workers on the payroll, so, you know. Republicans.

Oh. He signed it. Happy for some, not so much for others, and worried this will accelerate the devaluation of the dollar. *nervous*

Six hundred stinking dollars. That was all grandstanding intended to create fear and torture American citizens.

600 * 358,000,000 = $200,000,000,000 <- Not that every American gets $600.

Who gets that other $700,000,000,000, yo?

$900,000,000,000 / 150,000,000 taxpayers is $6,000 in individual assumed debt.

I don't understand. Maybe my brain is shut down. Throw a brick through the window and make me understand.

Well. To be honest, if each tax payer is going to assume $6,000 in assumed debt, I’d rather have seen the entire pot of fiat money given to individual Americans so they could inject it directly into the economy, which would have a trickle up effect. An analogy, yes?

We have a reservoir, and it’s full of water. Let’s say the reservoir is our financial system - banks, big biz, and more banks. The water is money. Let’s say the mountains around the reservoir represents poor people, and the valley below represents the middle class and wealthy.

During a severe drought (a recession or depression) the mountains go dry, the flowers die, the grasses burn, and the trees become susceptible to disease. Down reservoir the farms and lawn still get water because the reservoir exists as a safeguard. The governments notes the reservoir is getting low, and builds a pipeline (the Fed) and fills the reservoir up. This does nothing for the surrounding mountains. Ideally, if you can make it rain (heh) you’d water the mountains causing them to flourish, and the runoff would naturally be caught in the reservoir, and still make its way to the farms and lawns below, but this way everyone is benefitting from the rain/Fed.

Our government is bypassing the mountains and it’s going to cause more problems than it solves.

Cam. Talk to me like I am a 5th grader. Maybe it's because I haven't read through all of the summary details yet, though I have read some of it.

I don't understand this right here.

If that feels too much like work to go through with me, just say you'll pass. I won't be at all offended. I'm just confused. And angry as hell. Not for ourselves. For others.

Well. Americans who make under, I think, 80k/year, will get $600. I don’t know the particulars, but I just spitballed the $200B figure to include that and the extended unemployment benefits. That means the other $700B will go to businesses, foreign aid, and a bunch of other crap I’m too lazy to look up. That means you, individually, just took on an additional $6k in personal tax debt owed to the federal government for ... not much and not for your neighbor to pay their bills.

I’m watching Sunday Night Football, so maybe I’ll tippity tap my tablet and figure out where that other $700B is going.

Surprising no one, I didn’t have the full picture, and was shooting ignorantly from the hip.

eta: I think I was conflating the regular budget with this aid package with regard to foreign aid.
