Greeks haven’t produced much since their heyday either. Perhaps it was a complete waste to ever translate the works of Plato into English.

They have invaded every middle eastern country to spread their religion.

Sounds like Spain and the United Kingdom.

Maybe you don't know, but the Arabs are from Arabia, not every country that they now occupy.

Or, to be more specific, they are from the Arabian Peninsula.

All middle eastern countries had indigenous people who were conquered by the Arabs, their cultures all but disappeared.

Sounds like America.

The Arabs don't allow other religions and cultures to flourish when they invade, ie. Lebanon.

Or maybe they do (i.e. Egypt)

The UAE (that is the United Arab Republic) comprises 7 kingdoms, they are investing heavily in all parts of the world, because they have so much money. Pull up a a picture of Dubai, you might be surpursed. They can easily afford their own translation, we in the US can't.

OK, so your philosophy is “Don’t spend money on increasing and disseminating knowledge if someone else can do it instead.” Gotcha. If any new texts written by Saint Olav are ever found, should Norway be the only ones to translate them? (they do after all have a pretty high GDP per capita).

'spend on war' is a stupid comment.

Hi Pot, I would like you to meet my good friend Kettle. I believe you both have pigmentation in common.

It is not the job of the US to translate other countries ancient documents with US taxpayers money, no matter how great one thinks they are. Let private parties determine whether they want to spend private money on them. I don't recall reading in the Constitution the part about 'ancient document translation'. Let BYU do it they have alot of spare cash and they are getting the credit anyway.

Spain and Britain released their colonies, the Arabs want even more conquests than they already have.

Christians in Egypt practice at their own peril. I have been there, obviously some contributors have perceptions but not observations.

Arabia, Arabian penninsula-a distinction without a difference. But if i makes one feel smart, so be it.

I detect an America hater in the woodpile. This is not a political a political forum.

Maybe those on this forum who support this translation could put their money where their mouths are and contribute to causes like this.

After my rhetoric class last semester where I almost failed due to 'not getting' Plato (too much Nibleyesque Sophist bashing, seems I wasn't balanced enough) I think translating his works into English was a major inconvenience.....for me.

The only one that I had a lot of trouble "getting" (and still have trouble with) is Timaeus.

Damn, Nehor. Anything "Nibleyesque" is too much. That man was a sad excuse for an academic.

By the current standards of academia, perhaps.

By any.

I admit I do have sympathy for the man. I think he was pretty much forced to perform as a living parody of an academic, and the anxiety of this probably broke him. But an explanation is not an excuse and nothing excuses some of the delusions he peddled.

I wholeheartedly agree with this.
