EVERYONE: Pretend you just woke up and didn't know that McCain had chosen his vice-presidential running mate. The re-read the opening post.
Shades, have you moved since I met you in person? Are you living in a cave now?
And you know this. . . how, exactly?
I'd actually agree that her gender was a significant factor in picking her. McCain knew he would need something other than another white guy on the ticket to counter all the incoming whining about people not voting for Obama due to race. He needed a woman or someone a little less white for his VP or else he may as well have just handed the election to Obama. He would not have picked a white guy with her short experience list--just like the Democrats never would have selected a white male with Obama's short resume.
Nevertheless, she's an impressive pick. She's a solid conservative and her presence on the ticket is going to energize the conservative base, something McCain badly needed. She has a solid record of integrity and fighting corruption even within her own party. Her life story is nothing short of inspiring; sensible women on both sides are going to admire how she rose to governor of Alaska from humble roots all on her own, unaided by a wealthy family or an actively political husband. Added bonus: the fact that she's gorgeous means liberals aren't going to be able to Linda Tripp her. I'd rather see them sneer about her good looks than call her ugly and fat.
The only thing she leaves to be desired is more experience, but that's a critique that easily backfires. Like I said, she's bulletproof. If the McCain-Palin ticket loses it will be because McCain was such a crap candidate to begin with.
And I love these Chuck Norris-style jokes about Sarah Palin:
~ Sarah Palin became governor because five children left her with too much spare energy.
~ If placed into Schroedinger’s experiment, both Sarah Palins remain alive.
