I was working in Boston when Mitt was elected. It was in bad shape coming off the dot-com boom and nasdaq crash. Huge budget deficits, bloated public programs. He cleaned it up well and instituted gay marriage and universal health care. He was a fiscal conservative in the best tradition and he was socially moderate that seemed to match his education.
The irony to me is that the most liberal state in the nation elects a Mormon, Republican Governor but he is unelectable nationally without pandering to the christian right of the party.
I lost respect for both Romney and McCain for selling out their independent thinking in their lust for power.
