Yes, Malachi is a prophecy of the coming of the Messiah, which is fulfilled in Jesus Christ.

The prophecies concerning his return are found in the New Testament.

Yes, it refers to John the Baptist, Christ, and Elias himself, of whom the term comes from, or anyone else who comes in that spirit. Obviously, it has a broad meaning. As I stated before, John's name was not Elias, but Christ referred to him using that term.

- in English, using jacobean English as in KJV, in Book of Mormon and in D&C.

When Christ addressed His German speaking children, in 1545 German Bible, - through Luther, his mouthpiece, - He referred John as ELIA.

Talking to Russians, His word was ILIYA (=ИЛИЯ), please pronounce the "I" letters as in "fill", the "A" as in call...

To Georgians, the term used by Christ is ელია, pronounce it as You want, as far as I know there are no Georgians around Your keyboard who could cricitize Your accent.

To Hungarians, the name He used is ILLÉS. Your pronounciation would be as bad, as my one is in English. (You know, we Hungarians don't identify each other in the world with special masonic grips, a few Hunglish word is good enough...)

Where is the name Elias, then?

Ask Madeleine that. Maybe she can explain it to you better than me. If you don't want to accept the KJV or other versions, including the JST, it's up to you, but one day you may meet Elias and he can tell you exactly who he is. You seem to know a lot about languages, so you tell me, how would the Greeks write Elias? Where did you get the information that Luther was Chris's mouthpiece?!?

I am accepting all versions of the Bible as a literature which have a big footprint on humanity.
YOU are the one who doesn't understand that the name of that human entity we are talking about is different in different languages.
For example in German, there is no Elijah, no Elias. There is only Elia.
And this is true for a lot of language spoken around the world.

1. I don't think I can meet somebody who is dead, or never existed.
2. Even so, if such great and glorious vision would burst upon me - ©™® D&C 110 - , I wouldn't understand him. I don't speak Hebrew or Aramaic. Nor Greek. His black nametag may help.

I am lucky enough to be born as a member of a small nation with weird martian language.
Three of us can be known from Manhattan Project
- Edward Teller (Hungarian: Teller Ede; January 15, 1908 – September 9, 2003) was a Hungarian-American theoretical physicist, known colloquially as "the father of the hydrogen bomb"
- Eugene Paul "E. P." Wigner (Hungarian Wigner Jenő Pál; November 17, 1902
– January 1, 1995) FRS was a Hungarian American theoretical physicist and mathematician
- Leó Szilárd (Hungarian: Szilárd Leó, February 11, 1898 – May 30) was an Austro-Hungarian physicist and inventor

ηλιου or ηλιας, depending on what Greek accent we use.
Why does it count, by the way? The Greek writing?
That person - some old prophet named Elias (Your words!) - was not Greek, probably didn't speak Greek. He was an upright Israelite. His parents would never given name to their heir a stupid, weird greek-sounding word, without any meaning.
As You know (I hope You know), at that time the names have had meaning.
For example Elijah's meaning is "Yah is my God".

You know who Elijah is, don't You?
Elijah /ɨˈlaɪdʒə/; also Elias /ɨˈlaɪ.əs/; Hebrew: אֱלִיָּהוּ /Eliyahu/; Arabic:إلياس, /Ilyās/ was a prophet in the Northern Kingdom of Israel during the reign of Ahab (9th century BC), according to the Books of Kings.

The spirit told me. I would call it common sense.

Martin Luther was a German priest who sparked the Reformation.
- (without Reformation, there were no Mormonism, only the catholicism)
Luther studied philosophy and law before entering an Augustinian monastery in 1505. He was ordained two years later and continued his theological studies at the University of Wittenberg, where he became a professor of biblical studies.
- (OK, definitely, he was not an uneducated farmboy)
On a trip to Rome in 1510 he was shocked by the corruption of the clergy and was later troubled by doubts centring on fear of divine retributive justice.
- (sounds familiar?)
He distributed his Ninety-five Theses (according to legend, Luther nailed the theses to the door of the castle church in Wittenberg); the theses questioned Roman Catholic teaching and called for reform
- (sounds familiar?)

He translated the Bible into German; his superbly vigorous translation has long been regarded as the greatest landmark in the history of the German language
- (wasn't he God's mouthpiece, then?)
The German Bible (God's words in German...) reaches more than 100 million speakers.

It remains a fact that Elias = Elijah. It sounds like Jesus believed in reincarnation.

14And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.

*shrug* I happen to believe what Jesus said. I see no need to explain away the Word of God.

Ask me what? lol. The whole conversation of the translation of the name Eliyahu ,to Elijah or Elias, is not something I'm understanding as significant. If your name is "John", I can translate your name as Juan, Gian or Yohanan. I'm not talking about four different people.

I don't think anyone knows what gdemetz is talking about. Elias is the Greek version of Elijah. It's the same name as has been pointed out to gdemetz by multiple posters.

Oh, I think I see. Because I quoted from the KJV gdemetz thinks I'm saying something about the name Elias. I don't usually use the KJV. I used it here because I know Mormons favor it.

gdemetz, I'm comfortable using different Bibles. Some translate Eliyahu (אֱלִיָּהוּ) as Elias, some as Elijah. My usual Bible that I use, has it translated as Elijah. The KJV translators went with the Helenized: Elias. My Latin Bible has it translated as Heliam (hay-lee-ahm).
