There was no legal violation because the employment laws don't apply to businesses with fewer than 15 employees. If the laws had applied, I suspect the board would have gotten some different legal advice.

Now, embezzling money isn't quite the right word to describe what John did, but it's close enough for the sake of a broader discussion about his character. He was told what he wanted to do was wrong. He did it anyway. He privately benefited from tax-exempt deductions and continues to benefit from that illegal activity today.

You go, James. Why didn't you lead with this stuff? You would have had a lot better reception here than leading with the nightmare known as Rosebud.
