Somebody (or two) needs to be not-so-gently touched with a cattle prod for this -
When Kenosha County prosecutor Thomas Binger cross-examined murder suspect Kyle Rittenhouse yesterday, he wanted to show Rittenhouse video on an iPad and use a touchscreen feature that phone and tablet owners around the world use every day: pinch-to-zoom.

Judge Bruce Schroeder's ruling? You shall not pinch.

Schroeder prevented Binger from pinching and zooming after Rittenhouse's defense attorney Mark Richards claimed that when a user zooms in on a video, "Apple's iPad programming creat[es] what it thinks is there, not what necessarily is there." Richards provided no evidence for this claim and admitted that he doesn't understand how the pinch-to-zoom feature works, but the judge decided the burden was on the prosecution to prove that zooming in doesn't add new images into the video.

When Binger proceeded with his cross-examination, he used a Windows PC connected to a TV instead of an iPad to display drone footage from August 25, 2020, the night of the fatal shootings in Wisconsin. While the TV screen seemed to provide an acceptable alternative to Binger's preferred method of zooming in on an iPad, Rittenhouse testified that he couldn't tell what was happening in the video in response to some of the prosecutor's questions.
Maybe Binger shouldn’t have gotten into a pissing match with the judge by violating the 5th amendment with regard to to The Ritter’s right to silence?

If he were really interested in getting on the judge's good side, he only needs to walk in wearing a MAGA hat.

PLEASE listen to the Reisch video I just posted above. He's going over the jury instructions and law. You will understand that the why's ....why he went there, why he open carried an AR....don't matter. NONE of that matters.

That’s right. He’s not on trial for the ‘why’ questions, only the question of whether or not his claim of shooting in self defense is deemed reasonable.

Others may still have some why questions, though. And I can’t see it as helpful or reasonable for him to escape all possible consequences. But that might be handled by civil lawsuits later.
It's human nature to want to try to make sense of the why. Trying to figure out the psychology behind a crime is at least half the draw for me in a murder case. I've totally missed any forensics in this case, I am trying to catch up and see what's been presented.

But when it goes to trial, it doesn't matter what weapon he used or what his motivation was for bringing it. It doesn't matter why he went to Kenosha. It wouldn't matter if he was a freaking card carrying Nazi in this case. The law doesn't care about those things. The law is surgical in nature. The law cares about whether or not he acted in self defense. Period. End of story.

He's got, I think, 6 charges against him. I think one of them is a curfew violation, not sure. I have a lot of catching up to do on this case. I'm drinking my tea, eating peppermint bark, curled up in a down comforter, and watching a murder trial. I love this. No, I am not a peppermint crunching tea swilling ghoul. ;-) I find it all highly intriguing and I'm here for it.

So you think traumatized folks are outwardly emotional?
Speaking from experience, I think a genuinely traumatized person probably wouldn't be embracing the celebrity glory and presenting himself as a political martyr the second he's released from Jail. We only see him crying when he realizes there is a chance he could be going to prison. He was clearly emotional though, when he was serenaded with the Proud Boys anthem at a bar. During the police interrogation he frequently cursed and never once asked if the people he shot were dead or alive, which seems odd to me.
I'm just going to make a brief reply on this. I know a trauma victim who took a college course right after their violent and traumatic event, and freaking aced it. Same trauma victim got in their car one night and got lost and disoriented around the corner from their home and ran off into a ditch. What you see on the outside is not a reliable indication of what is going on inside.

I didn't see someone crying on the stand. I saw a break down.

If it all seems odd to you it's because you're looking at it from the outside with non-traumatized eyes. A traumatized person can look like they're all there, even when they're not there at all. Lessons learned in the trenches. Or ditches as the case may be.

I believe it’s not unusual for a person with PTSD to snap, as it were, if there’s a triggering event. Not only was he forced to relive the event, but he has to do it on the stand being grilled about it, FOR A NATIONAL AUDIENCE. Even if he doesn’t have PTSD over the event, he’s 18, on trial for murder and related charges, and he has to present himself in a way so he doesn’t waste his life in prison, all the while he’s IN FRONT OF A NATIONAL AUDIENCE.

Yes, I agree with your above. It could be a cascade of thoughts and emotions that have roots in the event and/or the fact that he's a trapped rat on the stand with the whole world watching. He knows good and well the whole world is watching and may understand more than older adults how clips will be used on social media for decades. What he does on camera will follow him around for the rest of his life.

So even if he walks free. He will never really walk free.

Watching the trial backwards starting from today. It occurs to me that when KR watches the digital forensics and if he has watched the events on screen over and over and over again, it may actually serve as a type of EMDR therapy or more likely exposure therapy, and help alleviate some of his PTSD symptoms. I'm not sure what the pitfalls might be with exposure therapy in this case. Just throwing my thoughts out to the masses here.

Why has he not got medication or does he? I'd bet my cat that he wasn't treated for trauma following the events. <---talking to myself.

Link for myself.
During discussions between Rittenhouse and his mother, they often focus on comments being made about the shooting on social media and sometimes try to comfort each other. At one point Wendy Rittenhouse calls her son “a big train wreck.” In another, Rittenhouse tells his mother “I need (expletive) therapy. I need to talk to someone.”

Was he drinking at the bar? Was he self medicating? <---talking to myself again. Pay me no mind. I'm only making notes.

Why isn’t it seen as more problematic that Rittenhouse chose to bring a rifle as opposed to a handgun, for ‘defensive’ purposes?
Because in Wisconsin it's illegal for a 16-17 year old to open carry a handgun, but it's not illegal for a 16-17 year old to open carry a rifle.
They don’t guarantee your safety through distance as a long gun would, but one would be able to better size up the immediate threat to determine if firing would be required, while not being forced to essentially carry a long gun as a defensive EDC.

This entire thread leads me to ask - Please remind me how it makes America a better place to live in that people can wander round the streets with loaded guns, just whenever they think it might be a good idea.
So that people can defend themselves when under attack in the streets.
