So I thought I would start this thread to show you guys just how one sided this board is. So I always get posters asking me, hey, why do you act different then you did when posting on MDDB? That’s really easy to answer actually. Let me explain. Over on MDDB I was finally banned permanently for fussing with a group of ladies over transgender rights. I was thread banned over there at least once every two weeks. I would stand up for lgbt rights and get banned for taking it a little to far. I got thread banned once for saying the prophets need to lose the $3000 dollar suits and put on work clothes and act like real prophets by working like real prophets. I was thread banned once for saying the church is stupid for shutting down the kitchens inside the churches because they could be used to bring the community closer together. I was thread banned over there numerous times for saying removing the word Mormon from the Mormon vocabulary is a stupid idea. I was banned one time for a few days for posting that the prophets need to stop reading off of the teleprompter. I pointed out that since 1974, my birth year, not one general conference talk has been given without a stupid teleprompter, yep, got banned. And many many more examples....
As a comparison...
I am more liberal than most people here. I think very highly of Karl Marx's ideas, and am sympathetic to Vladimir Lenin. I think Thomas Piketty is the greatest living economist.
I am an outspoken atheist and anti-Mormon. My chariot follows the four horsemen of new atheism.
I've made 2,649 posts on MDDB, where I've been posting since 2005.
I've been thread-banned from MDDB about 3 times maybe? I would say once every five years is my average. I've never been banned.
My point is simply that MDDB doesn't ban you for being liberal or anti-Mormon. They ban you if you personally attack people and are a dick. But if you keep the discussion focused on ideas and aren't a dick, you can be an outspoken anti-Mormon there.
I think the same principle applies here. Symmachus is conservative and gets along fine. Don Bradley is a Mormon and everybody likes him. The truth is heterogeneous ideas are embraced here. All you have to do is make thoughtful posts, and then listen and think about what people say in response. Just don't be a dick.
All fair. Not unreasonable at all. But, neither does this take all things into consideration.
Being a dick is rewarded if it means being a rabid exmo democrat who can call people homosexuals and p*******, for example. The issue is not whether or not the conservatives or non democrats can post here, they can. The issue is whether they have to submit to being trolled and called a Nazi - or whether they are free to dish as they get dished. Knowhatimean, vern? My style is to meet that kind of stuff with a rather sharp rejection, not to bow my head and ask for another. So, that should give you something to analyze, at least.
I say, play in the sandbox with the sand that is given. If ever Shades or anyone else wants it to be something else, great. In the meantime, some people will bow their heads and some won't. Oh well.

Others think that as you would that men should do to you, you should do to them likewise. Some people think A soft answer turns away wrath, but grievous words stir up anger.

Some people are correct to think that. And in most in real life situations, that works. In others, that fails. Here, it fails spectacularly.
Have a good one, Analytics.
Acting like a decent human being works pretty well here, too. For example, about a month ago a TBM made a post defending the apologist Hanna Seariac. He said, "Hanna Seariac is an awesome human being and has an admirable curiosity to keep inquiring and improving her understanding...."
None other than Dr. Scratch responded with, "Thanks for this thoughtful and generous post...."
