It occurs to me that that's the only somewhat valid reason to accumulate wealth, but still not good enough. The only reason to be personally concerned about a two-tiered system is if you're a criminal. Most people want fairness under the law regardless of wealth, but most people are also damned shallow, and are impressed by someone's wealth.

Yeah fairness is tricky. The easy answer is that everyone the same. But, while a million dollar fine would be Trump change for Elon Musk, it would be life destroying for a working stiff.

Just one caveat. Some percentage of people who are convicted are innocent. Most of those couldn’t afford a top tier criminal defense lawyer.

I sort of see that as part of the ramifications of the two tiers. A rich guy can afford a lawyer to get him off something he's guilty of, while the innocent are bombarded by moneyed or powerful interests.

The guy didn't have the alleged crimes spelled out to him prior as is required by the 6th amendment.

The judge refused witnesses that were against the predetermined conclusion.

The claim that the judge excluded witnesses is one of the many, many, many lies that Trump has told the trial. Trump’s lawyers wanted a legal expert to instruct the jury on what the prosecution had to prove to win the case. That’s the job of … checks notes… the judge. The Judge granted a motion to limit the expert’s testimony to prevent him from testifying about his opinions on the law — a motion that would be granted by any judge in any case. Judges tell the jury what the law is — not experts. Trump’s attorneys then decided not to call the expert as a witness.

Convict Trump will be more popular with the MAGA base than candidate Trump, but how will this play with the people having only one foot in the Twilight Zone?

I assume that Republicans will be trying to sell us on the idea that America is already a morally bankrupt country so we might as well vote for Trump.
