Shouldn't someone who pleads guilty get less time than someone who pleads not guilty and is convicted?
Still... 34 counts, all guilty. What good is the justice system if it doesn't attempt to prevent him from doing it again?

All this time, Trump wanted everyone to believe there was a two-tiered justice system, and he's right. The lie he told was suggesting he wasn't the beneficiary of that system.Res Ipsa wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 4:18 amThat’s the rich guy advantage. Some Schmo wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 4:15 am

It occurs to me that that's the only somewhat valid reason to accumulate wealth, but still not good enough. The only reason to be personally concerned about a two-tiered system is if you're a criminal. Most people want fairness under the law regardless of wealth, but most people are also damned shallow, and are impressed by someone's wealth.Res Ipsa wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 4:27 amYup. Yeah fairness is tricky. The easy answer is that everyone the same. But, while a million dollar fine would be Trump change for Elon Musk, it would be life destroying for a working stiff. Some Schmo wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 4:35 amIt occurs to me that that's the only somewhat valid reason to accumulate wealth, but still not good enough. Just one caveat. Some percentage of people who are convicted are innocent. Most of those couldn’t afford a top tier criminal defense lawyer.

I sort of see that as part of the ramifications of the two tiers. A rich guy can afford a lawyer to get him off something he's guilty of, while the innocent are bombarded by moneyed or powerful interests.

The claim that the judge excluded witnesses is one of the many, many, many lies that Trump has told the trial. Trump’s lawyers wanted a legal expert to instruct the jury on what the prosecution had to prove to win the case. That’s the job of … checks notes… the judge. The Judge granted a motion to limit the expert’s testimony to prevent him from testifying about his opinions on the law — a motion that would be granted by any judge in any case. Judges tell the jury what the law is — not experts. Trump’s attorneys then decided not to call the expert as a witness.Jersey Girl wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 1:22 amPrior to what?
Please name the witnesses that were refused by the judge. The judge refused witnesses that were against the predetermined conclusion.

Convict Trump will be more popular with the MAGA base than candidate Trump, but how will this play with the people having only one foot in the Twilight Zone?
I assume that Republicans will be trying to sell us on the idea that America is already a morally bankrupt country so we might as well vote for Trump.
