Are you really that new to the concept of emotional grifting?
In my head, it was always Rosebud and Jenn Kamp that seemed like the emotional grifters. Maybe there are some clear facts in all of this, but all of the emotional clutter has made this situation very tricky to fully absorb, and is ultimately undermined by their continued whining.

Anyway, good to have the BAB's mouthpiece back - are there any new facts about JD that we need to know about?

Oh I see we're back to the "I never put my penis in anyone so therefore I'm not a liar" part of John's argument.

How anyone gives money or legal advice for free to this guy is beyond me.
Even stranger is how you carry the piss bucket for Rosebud even when you are not at the Court of Versailles.
I have my very own piss bucket, thank you very much. Made it myself. It's very much separate from Rosebud's.

Our paths happened to align for a bit, but go on.

I’ll just note that I am someone who has donated my hard earned money to John Dehlin, because I supported him. The rosebud affair is indeed tragic.
It seems that there is general agreement on many aspects of John Dehlin's character. And if there was a dead horse being flogged, this feels like it... until the next scandal of course.

On the other hand, John Dehlin has tapped into something and he is extremely good at doing what he does. I don't know much about recovery from religions in general, but are there similar characters in JW-dom or other religions, that have been as successful (financially) as John Dehlin, turning over $1M a year in a 501 non-profit or whatever they are called?

I just clicked on the Fundraisers tab of Mormon Stories and was blown away by the number of people having Birthday fundraisers for MS. How does he do this? They can't all be gullible? Drum, you're not gullible are you? Or do you feel duped?

At some point someone should start a thread "The Genius of John Dehlin" and start a discussion on how and why he is so successful.
He is like a water merchant in a hot climate. He had a moderately successful shop on the main road of town, and when the hurricane hit, he had tons of bottled water that was not blown or carried away by the storm. Now the survivors go to him for bottled water.

There are other people bringing in their carts of bottled water but noone can compete since he has the pre-existing location, reputation, and stock.

Also--leaving the metaphor behind--exMormons are used to looking to men to trust and tell them the narrative. I think it's real natural for them to latch on to an exmo man who seems trusted and insightful. I did. Then after about six months I realised what I was doing and started to chip away at my internalised misogyny.

I know for a fact that John doesn't love what he does and fell out of love with Mormon Stories years and years ago, but he feels obligated to keep doing it because he put all his eggs in this basket. He'd be taking a huge pay cut and has become accustomed to a certain lifestyle (including going on nice trips funded by Mormon Stories).

If John really cared more about helping ex-Mormons than he does his own bottom line, the smart move would have been for him to hand over Mormon Stories to someone like Lindsey Hansen Park or Carah Burrell and then go do what he really wants to do which is help people at the therapeutic level. But, again, he'd be taking a huge pay cut and he did that math a while ago and hasn't even bothered to get his license. Which is a shame because I think he'd be really good at it and would feel more fulfilled than his current role of Mormon Ambulance Chaser.

It's a pretty tragic story about how power changes people, actually. But giving up power has never been John's strong suit.

You'd think he'd have enough money to afford better hair. It looks like he used a cheap box dye.

Yeah! Why does he need all that money, when he’s living rent free in your head?

As if money is a bad thing. Or creating value is a bad thing. These idiots live off of value creators.

Hey, folks. If you want to have a good life, create value out of your brain and trade on it. And stop whining. And if you keep whining, F U. Nobody cares about whiners and parasites.

To be clear, I was being sarcastic.
