MG, what about the Lamanites' skin coloring stemming from Asiatic DNA? What would you say to the Bering Sea land bridge as being part of the Lord's curse?

I think "the curse" was in the fact that there was a division between those that followed Christ and his prophets and those that didn't. That had ramifications.

I was suggesting that the skin color curse the Book of Mormon mentions arose from a different amount of skin pigment in those with Asian ancestry. You might notice the different skin pigment between Elder Gong and Elder Bednar. If you were from a different point in time and surrounded by a racist culture, you might invent fanciful explanations for that, such as Elder Bednar being so arrogant that the Lord turned him pale.

The ramifications were that the cursed Lamanites prospered and the non-cursed Nephites were eradicated. Food for thought maybe…
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

I know what you were suggesting. The fact is, even though Elder Gong and Elder Bednar have different skin pigmentation they are both individuals that have chosen Christ as their Savior and Redeemer. The same parallel held true in other times and places.Moksha wrote: ↑Fri Apr 18, 2025 10:18 amI was suggesting that the skin color curse the Book of Mormon mentions arose from a different amount of skin pigment in those with Asian ancestry. So you would not feel the need to invent a skin curse to explain the difference in their skin pigmentation, and definitely not if they shared the same belief system. It is more than likely that there was genetic material exchanged between the 'old inhabitants' and those that came along later. And there were most probably other genetic contributions to the larger population. In that larger population there would have naturally been various cultural and religious tribes/groups.Moksha wrote: ↑Fri Apr 18, 2025 6:14 pmSo you would not feel the need to invent a skin curse to explain the difference in their skin pigmentation, and definitely not if they shared the same belief system. Those that believed in and followed Christ and his prophets were one of those tribes/groups (if you believe in Book of Mormon historicity). Whether or not there were variances in amounts of shared genetic material within the "Nephites" and the other groups mentioned in the Book of Mormon is seemingly a question with only one answer.
Righteousness and acceptance before God went back and forth between tribes/groups throughout the Book of Mormon record. Nephites and Lamanites most assuredly had a predisposition to see the other in what we might refer to in our lingo as "racist".
I haven't ever been all that bothered by the so called 'racism' in the Book of Mormon. I think, just like everything else, there are a lot of 'moving parts' that we may not be privy to.

For the most part, the men got along with the Elves and Dwarves and had no problem at all with the Hobbits.
