I would recommend that people actually watch...yeah, it takes time...to watch Hansen's presentations. I have not watched all of them but the ones that I have watched I believe have fairly well represented pro and con arguments and especially made clear the actual doctrines of the church without diluting them as will often happen when critics get their hands on things. ;)
Would you be so good as to support this assertion with some cold, hard facts (or non-facts) from his videos? Links, time stamps?

Otherwise, aren't you blowing hot air?
For reference MG has still to provide this.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

Go back and read the original posts in which we communicated with each other. I think you will readily (???) see that no apology is necessary.

Regards,
MG
Stig's reply was harsh so I suppose in a strictly legal sense mg does not need to apologize so he will continue to not understand and this discussion will continue to go nowhere
Oh, I understand what the other side is saying. I simply don't think it has any merit.

But, yeah, it's better that this horse (argument) rides off into the sunset.

The video I was referencing in particular was the one linked to in the first post of this thread. I had quite a bit to say about it. In referencing 'other videos' that he has made having similar merit...in my opinion...does not mean I have to go in to any one of those in particular.

What is interesting is that, if my recollection is right, there were very few substantive comments made in reference to the specific/particular comments I made in reference to the main point (s) Hansen made in the video I am referring to. I think gadianton and Morley had something to say that actually broached the subject.

I appreciated that.

Very few, if any others, that had much to say except for going off on a wild goose chase.

So common.

Sheesh, go to the first page of the thread. Morley and Moksha started out by referencing in detail...nothing.

Then I come in with a comment and an actual time stamp:
Time stamp at around 4:00.

Yep. It's God, baby! That's where it has to start.

4:40 also. How true. That has been my own observation. Gee whiz, the whole thing. Way to go Jacob!
I've said a number of times now, "What is good for the goose is good for the gander". Do I need to explain what this means? ;)

This is getting tiresome folks. And it takes so much time to come back in and straighten up the mess.

"That has been my observation" said it all...even though I went into much more detail as the thread continued.

MG

I don't think I'll answer anything more. I just don't believe you act in good faith around here.
Unfortunately, that is not true. I am saddened that we can't dig a bit deeper.

Best wishes.

I would simply invite folks to go back to page nine and ten.

Stig starts with:
If I recall correctly, Jacob's wife is out, as well.

In my opinion, Hansen has the intellectual depth of a dry puddle. On top of that, he's an asshole. It's a lovely mix.
Then without cause on page ten he tells me to "shove your condescending attitude about this topic up your ass." It was unwarranted. I called him on it.

Later he said:
I don't think I'll answer anything more. I just don't believe you act in good faith around here.
That was unfortunate. I was asking in good faith wanting to learn. Unfortunately certain posters have muddied up the waters so often over a period of time that, well, this is what we end up with.

And that's the kind of stuff I'm putting up with here.

Could you point me to the page where you had something to say that dealt directly with the contend of Jacob Hansen's video referenced by Wang in the OP?

Thanks. By the way, huckleberry, I appreciate your civil tone. I'm sorry that sometimes I might come across otherwise. Unfortunately, in my opinion, I am dealing with some bad actors here.

I may push back against their silliness and call them out. I don't think Jesus wants us to lay down and get kicked over and over again without standing up for what we believe in. It would be cool/interesting to go back to the day of the original disciples of Jesus and listen in on what they had to say about those that were spreading false witness, etc. ;)

MG

Ah yes. Context is everything, is it not?

May I ask you the same question that I've asked Marcus and IHQ?

Did you ever have a firm faith and belief/testimony of the mission of Jesus Christ and in God the Father...at any time? Meaning before or after your loss of faith...assuming you had faith at some point/time in your life. ...
Yes. So much so that as my testimony began to falter, I became suicidal when I could not seem to get the Heavens to communicate with me. For a full year, I got up every morning and willed myself to keep believing, even though the facts did not support such a belief. I lost my marriage, many friendships, and the equivalent of many, many days of time trying to recover that testimony. All I could think at the time was that there was something seriously wrong with me or that I was engaging in some terrible sin (neither was true) because I couldn't get an answer to a single prayer to reaffirm my belief in the Church's truth claims. When I finally admitted to myself that I didn't believe in the Church, it was less than an hour later that I could no longer justify belief in any form of a deity. Why? Because the Church had done such an excellent job of helping me pick apart any other religious belief system (I served my mission in Tennessee), that I realized every single one of them was filled with nonsense.

So, the next time you arrogantly affirm that "we" (as exmos) never actually believed, why don't you remember me and people like me who desperately wanted it to be true and then lost everything because we just couldn't believe it anymore. While you're at it, you can shove that condescending attitude about this topic straight up your ass. I, and I alone, am the sole expert on how strong my belief was and you have no business, whatsoever, telling my otherwise.
Stig had every right to respond the way he did.

The troll says he was "asking in good faith, wanting to learn."

My question is, what did the troll learn?

Problem is, I never "affirmed" what he said I did. Oops.

He's the one that pushed the "condescending attitude" at me. But it was a lie.

As much as the continued 'troll narrative' you keep pushing.

Now, when you ask the question...minus the word troll...what did I learn?

What do YOU think I should have learned? It's got to be something I didn't already know.

Truth is, I was trying to get a handle on where different folks that once were in the pews on Sundays were on the 'faith scale' in regards to belief in the 'church' or Joseph Smith as opposed and/or running in tandem to/with a spiritual witness/belief in the Jesus Christ and in God.

Is that an inappropriate question to ask or being concerned with? I don't think so.

Yes, the 3 of you deserved better engagement than you received.
