This is a fair portrayal of what happened, yes. I do maintain the book is “true” and represents the lives of Joseph and his early companions. I don’t think MG was paying close attention to what I was saying so maybe he did feel like I was playing a trick. But I’m not—the book is “true.” It just isn’t ancient.malkie wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2026 1:16 amI wish I had written something down a few months ago, and mailed it to myself. Yeah he seems to want to paint a different story.
He characterized it as “I don’t want to put myself out there as I did with Limnor and then find out that from the very beginning I wasn’t trusted.”
He didn’t “find out” later that I didn’t trust him. I told him straight up from the beginning that I didn’t trust him.
I’m not sure what he thinks that spin means—maybe he is implying that I tricked him or something—but nope I told him from the get go.
When you (re)appeared on the board, declaring that you believed that the Book of Mormon was "true", If I recall correctly, MG responded very positively to you - like you were now a fellow defender of the faith. After seeing a few of your posts I came to the conclusion that MG was heading for a painful experience of disillusionment, accompanied with a feeling of betrayal, when he recognised that "true" for you was, potentially at least, nothing like "true" for him.

Re: The artificial intelligence MEGATHREAD
When you first started posting MG automatically assumed you were a male and addressed you as a male. When I asked him why he assumed you were male and not female, MG started addressing you as a female. And then you pointed out that you were indeed a male, and so he reverted back. It was great fun, but proved the point about MG’s inbuilt sexist attitude.Limnor wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2026 2:02 amThis is a fair portrayal of what happened, yes. Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

Will you be practicing what you preach (for once) going forwards?
I recall Peterson making a commitment to be respectful in return for a donation, he didn’t stick to his word on that one. I’m wondering if we can get your word on this, and if you will stick to it (unlike the Afore)?
A belief system is best defended by living it. Once you start betraying thise behavioural beliefs in that defense, it becomes friendly fire. If you want people to treat you with seriousness and respect, treat them with seriousness and respect. Walls of AI generated text that you don’t understand, is not treating someone with seriousness and respect. If someone treats you with unseriousness or disrespect, guess what, as a Mormon defender you must still treat them with seriousness and respect. You must turn the other cheek. Or you completely undermine your serious and respectful defending of your faith.
I don’t believe you are capable of keeping that type of good faith behaviour up. But you can go right ahead and prove me wrong…

You made this comment a while back but I wanted to note how ubiquitous this self-victimizing is. In a recent link to Grant Hardy, speaking about the Mormon 'gold plates', he said this:Limnor wrote: ↑Tue Mar 17, 2026 12:41 pmWhat makes it worse from my perspective is the term “I feel sorry for you” used in the temple ceremony predicts that people will feel pity for adherents, so that sympathy seems to have been weaponized as confirmation of belief. How could Joseph know that people would pity adherents?I Have Questions wrote: ↑Tue Mar 17, 2026 11:00 amI think it’s deeper. He doesn’t have the standing in real life and in his home that he thinks he deserves. So he comes here to try and make himself feel “dominant”. His declining cognitive abilities (which is why he wants to rely so heavily on AI) only exacerbate his frustration in being unable to get the other males on the board to treat him like the general authority he feels he should be. He’s a very sad case underneath it all.
"Endure the shame" !!!! Way to weaponize that pity....The fantastic nature of the plates, Givens is saying, is meant to disrupt our assumptions and require a sacrifice of us. We must endure the shame of a belief at odds with today’s common sense...

It’s interesting to me that pity can be both predicted and then sought out and exploited to validate the belief. It’s self-sealing.Marcus wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2026 2:24 amYou made this comment a while back but I wanted to note how ubiquitous this self-victimizing is. Re: The artificial intelligence MEGATHREAD
I would hazard a guess that an outside observer would ask "Why are there a few folks that ALWAYS follow one measly uninteresting poster around, time after time, day after day, as though their very lives/self worth depended on it?"
One possible answer might be chronic OCD.
Ever seen old Beatle's concerts with groupies going stark raving mad and acting like lunitics? Conversely I wonder sometimes what it looks like on the other side of the computer trail where OCD folks are sitting and pounding away

Sometimes it's difficult to sit and take the false innuendo and inaccuracies that come my way, but overall it saves time and energy.
The downside, as I've said, certain posters have free reign to say whatever they want and follow me around without any repercussions.
Except for high fives from the cheering section.
Some think they even have a sense of wit and humor. Of course at the expense of 'the mark' who will more often than not turn the other cheek.
Here come the trolls...
