What does Lem and Jersey's reaction to your comments have to do with liberalism? Can you articulate the double standard you see? Who is the charismatic leader that everyone here follows blindly? Who are the "approved sources" and "approved people"? What, specifically, do you identify as "group think" that you see here. (In my experience, accusations of "group think" are most often made by "group thinkers.") Maybe the reason you think you see all these things has more to do with your own biases than it does with what actually goes on here.Atlanticmike wrote: ↑Mon Aug 23, 2021 6:09 pmShows the double standard you liberals hold. I’m guilty of that, RI. My apologies for contributing responses, but I genuinely enjoy probing human behavior. I have no issue with engaging trolls if it satisfies my curiosities.

I know that was a playful analogy but I just did want to say something here. I don't give two damns in hell what someone does for a living. I have nothing but admiration for tradespeople. I've done quite a lot of that type of work. The thing is, is that I believe I can hold a hammer as well as hold my own in discussion if I put my mind to it, particularly in certain field related areas.
And while I have actually roofed a home in Jersey, no one can make me walk on this 12:12 pitch roof over my head. That I will not do. Cherry picker to paint and tape off? Sure. 12:12 pitch? Not on your life.
The problem is that AM isn't even willing to climb the ladder, intellectually walk on this 6:12, and give himself an honest go of it. It's not that high a climb if one wants to put their mind to it.
But he doesn't. So he doesn't.

I agree. Most of my work for the last decade has been in the area of construction defects. I've spent hours and hours with general contractors and tradespeople. I admire anyone who does their job well and takes pride in their work. When my roof needs work or I need electrical work done, I go out and hire an expert who knows what they hell they are doing. I don't consult roofers for a sore tooth and I don't consult my dentist on roofing problems. I recognize and appreciate expertise, regardless of what type of expertise it is.Jersey Girl wrote: ↑Mon Aug 23, 2021 6:39 pmI know that was a playful analogy but I just did want to say something here. I've noticed that part of the campaign among opinion leaders and media celebrities on the right is to send the message: "those college educated liberals think they know more than you and are smarter than you." And, like all stereotypes, I'm sure there are some college-educated folks that act that way. But, in my experience, that's not the way most college educated folks think. My best friend and my brother didn't finish college. I don't even know whether most of my friends graduated from college or not. College was decades ago, and it simply doesn't come up. I know brilliant, educated people who never went to college. I know people who graduated from elite law schools that are dumber than posts and couldn't think their way out of a paper bag. I really think that the political divide between college-educated and non college-educated is due largely to use of education as one of the "wedge issues" created and promoted by the Limbaughs, O-Reilly's and Hannities of the world.

You know what's funny! I've said so many times that I don't want to talk politics on here. I hate politics. But that's all this place is. A couple of days after being on here i told jersey girl that I love talking about personal stuff and she said she did to. But you can't on here without getting criticized. Take yesterday and canpakes asking if I went surfing. That very simple post turned into Lem/calm looking up what time the sunrises so she could prove me wrong. What the hell is that!! You see? Some people here are fuckin crazy. Even the story about my bishop that I told today, was I using it to joke on them? Yes. But that actually happened. That particular Bishop and I had a lot of great times but we also butted heads a lot. Same bishop a year later at a ward beach party asked one of my wife's friends to cover up her stomach or leave a public beachRes Ipsa wrote: ↑Mon Aug 23, 2021 6:30 pmWhat does Lem and Jersey's reaction to your comments have to do with liberalism? No one is forcing you to talk politics, Mike. And you mostly just link and run on political topics, so it's not much of a discussion. Just don't talk politics. I haven't put you on ignore so far, but I read very little of what you write because so much of it is trolling nonsense.Atlanticmike wrote: ↑Mon Aug 23, 2021 7:17 pmYou know what's funny! The guy was one of those sexually oppressed weird Mormons that would've probably been better off in the FLDS or a strict Southern Baptist. Are you telling me you don't think spirit paradise is a liberals wet dream come true??
Everyone here may be crazy. But we're certainly not crazy in lock step. There's all kinds of crazy here. And I would lay odds that the people you lump me with are people I've had knock down drag out fights with on the board. But the "damned crazy" you described has nothing to do with being "liberals." If you want to have real discussions with people, I'd suggest that you stop using "liberal" or "progressive" to mean "person who said something I disagree with." Hell, Jersey Girl isn't politically liberal at all. Except maybe to Trumpers who think RINOs are liberals.

Politically, Paradise tends to be dominated by confrontational people with extreme views, just like most political forums in the US. There have been periods when it (including the off topic forum) was dominated by extreme conservative voices. I mean, there are so few of us here, it takes only one or two people to shift the balance. Again, you're relatively new here, but you apparently haven't read thread after thread where Doc Cam trolled the crap out of liberals and their views. So, if Paradise is anyone's "wet dream," it's folks who want to be able to have a conversation about just about any topic. And, when we have moderators that enforce the rules as written, it does a much better job of that. In fact, the folks that you identify as being shouted down would gain the most if moderation were restored and the rules enforced.
As a practical matter, if you want people to engage with you on substance, you've got to stop trolling. Because your troll and not troll "voices" here are very hard to tell apart. And you haven't made any effort here to earn the benefit of the doubt when you claim that something that sounds trollish is something you intended to be serious.
It's a hard skill to learn, sometimes, but don't let what other people post dictate how you post. If you think Lem's crazy, you don't have to respond to her. You can place her on ignore. Same goes with anyone else. Put your little boxes labeled "conservative" and "liberal" way and just interact with people without slapping labels on them. If you don't understand what they're saying, ditch the emojis, ask questions, and try to understand. But only do all that if you want people to take you seriously enough to have a serious discussion with you. If you don't, keep on keeping on.

There's absolutely no way for serious discussion on this forum. None what so ever. In the terrestrial yes.
