At some point, though, i think it is instructive to step back and look at the overall pattern of contributions. Any neutral viewing would acknowledge that multiple lengthy discussions by long term participants were utterly destroyed by trolls taking advantage, sadly.Gadianton wrote: ↑Sat Aug 28, 2021 10:41 pmha, yeah. Well, ultimately a long-term moderating model will be something Shades endorses. For many years his system has worked and I think it's just some bad interaction of events right now.
I don't have a problem giving people lots of chances if it can be done without too much work.
For political discussions these days you almost have to give people some extra chances.
Shades does, however, have a very unique model. Many other communities simply ban trolls, but Shades’ free speech rule is admirable, in that trolling, by his rules, is technically just another form of expression. Based on the research, this is by no means a resolved issue. What people almost always focus on is the concept that the price for freedom of speech, when trolls latch on, inevitably results in a long term inability to form communities and have strong conversations. Shade’s rule of ultimately limiting such participation to certain forums, when enacted, is literally the single best solution to this problem that I’ve come across is my reading. Maybe the division into Kingdoms really is god-given.

However, in spite of my opinions as stated above, I still think Gadianton is currently handling this as efficiently and fairly as possible. I just feel bad that he loses out by not feeling free to participate, but his integrity in making that self-rule is very admirable.
