Well, since Ajax doesn't have the balls to even provide the source for his claim that COVID-19 is 99.96% "survivable," we'll just have to trace the claim on the internet. Okay, three seconds later, this was a "fact" circulating among COVID deniers back in August. Now, one would think that the rate of survivability would mean something like: "of the people infected with COVID, what percentage don't die of COVID?" But that's not what this number was back in August. It was just the reported number of COVID deaths divided by the entire population of the US. In other words, claiming that the number has anything to do with survivability is just crap.

We can estimate a couple of number that may present a plausible range of survivability:

If we divide the number of US deaths by the reported number of US cases, we get 2%
If we divide the number of US deaths by the reported number of resolved cases, we get 3%

Either of those number is two orders of magnitude greater than Ajax's BS figure.

His other claim was "99% of us don't get sick."

Another three seconds of googling reveals the source of that claim: Donald Trump. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics ... -harmless/ No one in the White House was able to identify the source of his claim. (But I can -- his ass)

The most recent studies estimate that 20% of cases are truly asymptomatic. They are still highly contagious. And even asymptomatic cases can result in organ damage.

Just to emphasize: Ajax parroted numbers he liked rather than spend a total of six seconds googling.
Even if it'ss a 3% death rate, I don't agree with shutting down the economy. Even people who had COVID already are getting vaccinated. Why? Because 6 months later they can get COVID again. There will be no eradication of Covid any sooner than we can eradicate the common cold. So what does shutting down accomplish? Nothing but delaying the inevitable. It's a colossal waste of money and at a certain point, the drop in quality of life due to perpetual quarantine is worse than death.

Now Democrat politicians know this. They go out to eat. They fly to visit family. They get their hair done. Most of them don't obey any of the rules they ask common people to obey. I got a real kick out of a Taco Stand in San Francisco renaming itself "French Laundry," in hopes of avoiding being shut down.

And to think Republicans were at one point pushing the 'death panels' as a scare tactic. Now? They're like, "“F” it. 20 million can die as far as I'm concerned."

So, what's the number of dead you're willing to sacrifice, Xanax?

by the way, we haven't shut any economy down. My wife is, in fact, working today. And we, in fact, bought xmas presents yesterday. And I saw restaurants and drive-thrus and exhibitions packed last night, all over town.

But why listen to what we've been saying since March when you can just be told what we're saying by your handlers, and then post that nonsense over and over and over again?

Thanks for the explanation, Res. It looks like ajax has once again escaped the consequences of his meltdown by having a new meltdown on a different subject.

I've noticed among my acquaintances there are two different angles taken by the religious right to protect Trump on Covid. The first group are the deniers, they are the traditional ones. A friend of mine just got back from a doctor's appointment where the doctor told her that Covid is mostly hype and her sister just got back from a Trump rally. It was disheartening to learn these people actually exist in the real world.

The other faction is the inevitablists. Covid is unstoppable and at some point, we'll all get it, therefore it doesn't matter if Trump lies about it because there is nothing anybody else could have done to stop it.

I know three older Trump supports who are very scared of getting it to the point where they wear masks even outside on walks, and one wears gloves also. Inevitable statements are made from time to time by one of these. I think what it comes down to is that they are all retired and have money, and they can navigate the risks pretty well. They need the rest of society, though, to be out taking the risk in order to keep the economy going for them, and so they fully back Trump's lies, knowing they are lies, even though they themselves aren't willing to repeat them.

Granted, they don't understand that letting the virus run uncontrolled has and will force business closure anyway, and shutting down could be a realistic play -- one that should be made carefully in the future -- to avoid even greater losses to business.

It's absolutely remarkable to me that there seem to be so many people who don't give a damn about strangers (or other people at all). It's as though they think not knowing people allows you to escape the consequences of their lives.

The GOP encourages criminal selfishness. Amazing to me they're so successful at it. I guess they understand their audience.

Yeah, look how well the last shutdown helped avoid business closures today in New York and California. Good thing they didn't reopen early like Florida did. Look how well it worked for out for Europe. If only President Trump would have imposed a hard lockdown on Europe, Covid would be eradicated and Europe would not be shutdown today. Why should being a separate country stop liberals across the pond from blaming Trump for Covid as well?

Ajax says “look at” but he never does. European countries took action in response to the fall spike, and their numbers of new daily cases have fallen sharply. They aren’t destroying their hospital system’s ability to care for patients. The US, on the other hand, is still trying to kill as many people as it can, both from COVID and from postponed medical procedures and people dying while waiting in ER hallways waiting for a slot in the ICU to open up.

Ajax just wants to hate liberals. Facts don’t matter. The health and lives of his fellow Americans don’t matter. He just doesn’t care as long as he can imagine an excuse to hate.
he/him
we all just have to live through it,
holding each other’s hands.
