Louis Midgley wrote:I had no sooner laid down for a long winter's nap only to find Hugh Nibley standing over me. "Louis, my boy," he said, "Listen to my tale and learn." Suddenly, we appeared at the Hofenzingerstrauzen café in Dresden before the bombing. We were drinking Otto's non-alcoholic hefeweizen and chewing on pickled herring. He told me that I would be visited by three Nephites and then praised me on the ponderous length of my apologetic cantankerousness.
Anyway, to make a long story short, the Nephites convinced me to keep the secret of Delmarva until Mormonkind is found righteous enough to receive this knowledge, well... that and to make glad the spirit of Smithmas. For now, only Dr. Peterson and I hold the key to Gilgamesh talking to the Nephites at Mardel Springs and feeding the crowd with a dozen White Castle burgers and a couple of gallons of Sprite. Centuries from now the Saints will know it as "The Miracle of the Sprite and Sliders".

Please produce just one Nephite archaeological item.
The North Star.
When the Nephites looked "NORTH" they could see the North Star, always. It's the sure sign of the star! A heavenly sign that is steadfast and forever reliable. Therefore, north is always north unless your name is Sorenson or Gardner who make up silly excuses to defend their contorted 120 mile wide narrow neck in which a Nephite could cross in a single day.

More Narrow Neck Illustrations
I decided to make a couple more pics to help illustrate the narrow neck from another perspective from a map available in Joseph Smith's day. There are several posts and illustrations in this thread that illustrate this all important point of the narrow neck. The two statements made by Smith as he narrates his text by defining the dimensions and directions of the neck is what gives Smith's secret away. Nonmembers of the church and investigators of Mormonism will eat this up! They will see it for what it is because their eyes have not been blinded by the apologists and neither have their minds been poisoned into believing the book is a historical story. The Book of Mormon will ever remain in search of archeological evidence which will never be found because the book is fiction.
Philo, make sure you use these in any presentations you might like to do.

Actually, these are the words I said:MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 02, 2022 5:14 am....The Book of Mormon is a priori fictional therefore we can’t expect that the internal narrative in the Book of Mormon can correlate with the actual world in real time and space.

In the absence of total proof, think of the best answer is the comparative advantage of the Delmarva Solution. If the Heartland, Mesoamerican, and Delmarva locations are compared to the story then Delmarva wins on geographical merit. I know the BYU apologists have put a lot of work into stretching the truth on their Mesoamerican model, but it fails on a lot of details. Besides those mentioned by Shulem, getting those heavy gold plates to New York State seems insurmountable (however that apologetic that they were beamed to that location does have some appeal and perhaps even the blessing of the Roddenberry wing of the Interpreter Foundation).MG, as you know, there are no explicit archeological findings for the Nephite civilization because it is fictional. The best that can be claimed as a match is that everything happened in a parallel dimension. Beyond that, you have to turn to the absurd such as a group of 16th Century bards doing translations in between flagons of mead, with a people who spoke proto-Ugaritic-Esperanto.
Geographically, the Delmarva Peninsula seems the clear winner.

The BYU folks aren’t the only ones in the game.

Shulem is welcome to come up with his own theory as to the narrow neck of land. The thing is, others, including Dr. F. Richard Hauck and other folks have competing theories. And their research allows for the internal narrative of real people and real civilizations as described in the Book of Mormon.
The nonmembers and non believing members of record should look at ALL the theories as they make their own determinations of what they think makes sense with the evidence available.
But to come up with a theory of Book of Mormon geography without even ALLOWING for the possibility of folks such as Brant and Richard Hauck to have a say and simply shrug them off is a bit presumptuous.
But that doesn’t in any way mean Shulem and other critics can’t throw their hat into the ring also.

MG

MG, this is what I see in the information of the link you provided in the wish that archeological evidence of the Book of Mormon is hidden down in Mesoamerica, somewhere, anywhere:

No, the 7+ billion people on planet earth need only consider Book of Mormon geography within the context that Joseph & Oliver confirmed that the wars were fought at Cumorah in New York State. See posts earlier in this thread that bear testimony to official statements given by revelation in early Church publications.
Not according to Joseph & Oliver who testified together that Cumorah was in New York where the Nephite and Jaredite wars were fought.

Re: We Hail to Thee, Delmarva
It's the Blue Ribbon winner and the very land in which Joseph Smith originally decided/intended/visualized in which to invent his story about a white and delightsome people who became a dark and loathsome people because of their sins. THAT is the origins of Mormonism! And it's all founded upon the principle of fear and in doing what the leaders of the church say or be damned.
The gist of the matter has been presented right here on this message board and you are getting a far better presentation of Joseph Smith and his secret geography than you will ever get from the likes of any of the apologists who stumble about inventing models and justifying the idea that there is archeological evidence hidden away or buried up unto the Lord. The apologists are all wrong. It took a critic to come to the truth and explain it.
Joseph Smith is speaking from the dust through me, Shulem, right here on Discuss Mormonism. Believe it or not!
Verily, verily, thus saith the Lord!
