I stand corrected. You did indeed point out the potential for a sort of "Mopologetic minstrelsy." Was the "R" word ever used to describe this incident before Parker was identified as PP?
so, the actual R word, and before march 6, 2023 9 pm. a pretty restrictive request, but here's a couple from the record:

...DCP has rightly been taken to task for racism before—most notably for posting lynching photos. So, is this his attempt at redemption? Remember: Boylan and Smoot are claiming that a Black man is running “Neville-Neville Land.” The other option is that DCP is covering for some exceptionally disgusting racists. Someone should ask him (or Smoot, or Boylan) about this on their various blogs.

3.Stephen Smoot is Linked to "Neville-Neville Land" and a Racist Cover-Up

... So, why the antipathy, then? The answer came in the form of a rather strange and obsessive blog called "Neville-Neville Land," which was overseen by "Peter Pan."

...Meanwhile, a YouTube video surfaced, during which Robert Boylan interviewed budding Mopologist Spencer Kraus, and on the video, Boylan announced that "Neville-Neville Land" is operated by a Black man named "Richard Nygren," who, Boylan claims, is "one of the only African American apologists in the Church." Is this true? If so, no one has been able to find a shred of evidence that Nygren exists, and all the signs still point to Smoot being the main author of "Neville-Neville Land." If it's *not* true, though, it means that the apologists have attempted to blame a cartoonish smear blog--aimed at one of their own fellow Latter-day Saints, no less!--on a made-up Black man. If this is the case, it would represent arguably *the* most ugly incident of racist behavior in the entire annals of Mopologetics.
on the other hand, I don't see how an accusation of racism can't be valid after Parker was identified, because isn't that the point? Specifically appropriating another race to hide behind--If I recall correctly someone referred to it as digital blackface--- is what makes this racist. knowing Boylan did it, and that Parker, among others let it stand, is what makes this racist. it was suspected for a long time, but the proof is there.
Thanks. I only used the identification of Parker as an end date because I was aware of the accusations of racism in that thread. in my opinion, the circumstances in this case are a little unusual. I noticed that Kish originally thought it may be a dig at the Heartlanders over the issue of racism by Heartlanders. That's what Parker's blog post describes as Boylan's motive. Because neither Boylan nor Parker consider being an apologist a bad thing, claiming that a black apologist exists wasn't intended as a slur on black folks. It's pretty clear to me that the nasty, attacking FARMS style of apologetics isn't viewed as a bad thing by its adherents. So, although folks here may view the content of Neville-Neville land as abhorrent, that view isn't shared by those apologists. in my opinion, it doesn't make sense to describe what went on as hiding bad behavior behind a black face when the people involved don't consider themselves engaging in bad behavior.

I'm not defending either Boylan or Parker. Given the history of racism in the LDS church, Boylan's fabrication of a black man as a soldier in his war against the Heartlanders goes beyond mere bad taste. And Parker's failure to correct Boylan when he had the opportunity was, at best, misleading. On the other hand, all racist acts aren't of the same magnitude, and, to me, this pales in comparison to some of the racism I've read examples of among the Heartland movement. So, I've been curious about why the racism claim blew up here at the time that it did. in my opinion, the racism issue really took off in this thread when it was suggested that DCP was complicit.

So, two weeks after Boylan's remark, Dr. Scratch referred to it as minstrelsy. Three months later, when DCP's involvement is introduced into the issue, Dr. Scratch describes it this way:
But the whole thing is interesting to think about it, and as much as I’m sure he’d like to deny it, Dan Peterson is implicated. Has he been supporting an African American apologist’s work all along? He has said that he knows who’s behind it. And DCP has rightly been taken to task for racism before—most notably for posting lynching photos.
I'm still waiting for the rest of the facts to come out before reaching any firm conclusions on the whole brouhaha.

I noticed that Boylan has revised his show notes to remove reference to Brother Nygren. Of course, he hasn’t edited the podcast.
It was sometime between March 7 and 31. The Wayback Machine has the original show notes included on March 7: https://web.archive.org/web/20230307153 ... R6bJyjU-bc
thank you

Except didn't Parker say that Boylan told him the "joke" was in response to a set of racist posts? Yeah... that.

Of course they didn’t think using ‘digital blackface’ to take a dig at the Heartlanders’ perceived racism was abhorrent. They thought it was funny, and they let the lie, created by a white man, uncorrected by other white men, stand because it was useful to provide cover for Mike Parker, a white man. Obviously it’s not the end of the world, but it is what it is. How people want to react to that is their prerogative.

I think the bigger issue is the duplicity they muck around with regard to all the things they bitch about. The idea they created an anonymous blog with which to attack fellow Latter-days, viciously, is the real eyebrow raiser, in my opinion.

At this point, the best outcome for the Mopologists is that there really is a Black Latter-day Saint apologist named Richard Nygren who runs the "Neville-Neville Land" blog. Because if this turns out to be a lie, then not only will it be yet another act of Mopologetic dishonesty, but it will have the added problem of being a sort of Mopologetic "minstrelsy," where they pretended to be Black in order to escape criticism.

That's going to be a hard no. Claiming one meant it in a nice way doesn't excuse a race misappropriation.

On the other hand, this excuse argues an interesting variation on that:

It's official, Counsel, you are hired! I am looking forward to you, as my legal representation, explaining to the judge that my kid didn't consider going 90 mph on the Interstate late at night when no other cars were around to be bad behavior, therefore the 4 points and $250 fine should all be voided.

While you're at it, please explain in local court that my spouse wasn't aware of the law prohibiting parking within 20ft of the stop sign, he really, really really was positive it was 15ft! And he thought he was behaving well by parking at 15 ft! Therefore his fine will be dropped also, right?

(And my neighbor plays loud music very, very late at night, until the police stop by and ask them to follow the law and stop. Do NOT tell my neighbors they can get away with this by claiming that, in their not so humble opinion, it is NOT bad behavior to play really loud music that they really, really like, really, really, REALLY late at night, because claiming "it is not" would override any violation of the law. In fact, don't speak to anyone at all. You're MY secret weapon. )

Okay, end of troll practice. No hard feelings, right?
