Are there still liberal Mormons?

For any believer - No matter if said believer is Mormon, Protestant, Muslim, Catholic, etc, etc) experiencing various degrees of struggle and/or crisis concerning their belief is extremely common. I would even go as far as suggesting that a non-believer (a.k.a. - No God) can experience the very same thing, along similar degrees, in the opposite direction.

He wouldn’t say. It was, and I quote, “too personal.” He always keeps his ‘struggles’ vague because he just wants to lie about them so he can maintain this narrative of regaining his testimonkey. It’s all theater for the troll.

Oh I see, like a girl didn't like him back or something? Not saying it's that, it could be a hundred other things. Mormon culture is brutal and it seems to be the same everywhere. On my mission, the branches had the same clique issues of Utah wards. that can all factor into belief. They were losing youth like crazy to the Christian mega-centers. I spent a lot of time with one of those youth groups and at a certain point, people are people wherever, but it did seem there was a real attempt for everyone in the group to try to be friends with everyone else.

As I look through this list I have to think that each of these folks, along with many others in the church that are more or less not as well known, have a vibrant ‘life of the mind’. I, personally, have never felt that I needed to restrict my thoughts in regards to investigating and thinking about the ‘world out there’.

I’m built that way as I’m sure many other church members are.

Oh, I agree. I believe they probably did (or do). My suggestion was that being an intellectual while also being a believing Mormon would not be an easy life.

Remember the old adage: “No one said it would be easy, only that it would be worth it.”

I’ve found that to be true. Not that I claim to be an intellectual…but you know…

Something I want to attain to when I grow up.

Going through a faith crisis and struggling with belief is not apostasy.

For any believer - No matter if said believer is Mormon, Protestant, Muslim, Catholic, etc, etc) experiencing various degrees of struggle and/or crisis concerning their belief is extremely common. I would even go as far as suggesting that a non-believer (a.k.a. - No God) can experience the very same thing, along similar degrees, in the opposite direction.

And I wouldn’t necessarily call any of them apostate. I was called that as a matter of fact earlier.

Hi Morley. We had both. I may be off on the timeline. This was a long time ago. If I misspoke on the chronology, I’m sorry. Especially if that somehow is an issue for you.

Memories fade sometimes when it comes to what took place when. I didn’t write it in my journal.

The fact is, when I was younger, pre mission and post mission (I think?), I read through a lot of Dialogue and Sunstone.

It was after my mission I attended Sunstone and FAIR. That I’m sure of the timing.

Along with Tanners and just about everything else that was coming into view.

I doubt that Sunstone began publishing until you were probably already on your mission.

That may well be true. It was Dialogue that began back in 1966 under the stewardship of Eugene England. Pre mission. I guess I started reading Sunstone after my mission or just before. I remember going over to the Orem Public Library to read them. But it seems as though I remember my dad having Sunstone around the house also.

Oh well, memory is fuzzy. It definitely wasn’t worth two pages of going off in the weeds…
