With no apparent moderation currently in place, there doesn't seem to be anything to do except ignore them, which isn't really an effective solution. This thread was just a reminder of how trolling can disrupt a community and lead to voices being silenced. And I still miss grindael, whose voice was silenced here, for what would turn out to be the last year of his life, by just such a disruption. Hence the title. That's all. Thanks for reading, and thanks for your comments.

Re: A tribute to Grindael
The first action I took when posting here was that I went to work transferring Grindael's creative work to this board. I still have not transferred the very last exchange he had regarding a creative piece to this board because I am sure in real life interrupted my process. That last exchange was between Grin and Lem. I'll try to relocate that on the broken board if possible, transfer and finish what I started.
I did not volunteer his historical writings of which there were volumes.
If anyone would like to read and appreciate Johnny's creative writing, they are located in the archives.

Re: A tribute to Grindael
I'll keep doing my part to ignore them, as I was completely oblivious to all of them! On a related note, another tragedy is how many of his posts we've lost due to the corruption of the database for the old board. He and others contributed so much invaluable insight into Mormonism and it is awful how much of it is gone. Is there really nothing that can be done to restore the old board?Lem wrote: ↑Sun Aug 08, 2021 4:44 pmWith no apparent moderation currently in place, there doesn't seem to be anything to do except ignore them, which isn't really an effective solution. Hi drumdude
If I may, it might not be the deepest display of wisdom to ignore people based on what someone is suggesting about said people. Perhaps such a decision ought to be made by you - using your own determinations. Just a thought.

Re: A tribute to Grindael
The rules for the Terrestrial and Paradise forums are identical. As are those for the Telestial and Prison forums.drumdude wrote: ↑Sun Aug 08, 2021 3:16 pmIf I’m understanding the tiers correctly, then this thread should be sent back to the kingdom from which it came. That forum is specifically meant for unfiltered discussion.
As my Mormon friends always say, Mormon Doctrine clearly teaches there is no progression between kingdoms. This incursion is most blasphemous!
What the OP looks like to me is a kind of reaction to the activity in Paradise which led to memories of how Grindael was treated by an insidious troll in the previous Terrestrial forum. Therefore, the motivation to initiate a thread like this serves a two-fold purpose. Addressing the issue of pernicious trolling on the board and what the ramifications of that might be. With regard to the trolling of Grindael, it went on for weeks. MG disrupted Grin's historical writing and commentary and essentially followed him to each thread Grin posted on. If memory serves, Shades went hands off. Ultimately he called for a Jubilee. At that point, the damage had already been done and Grin had already departed the scene never to return.
I'll admit that my own personal interest in Grindael's writings was focused on his creative work. That's why I set about the business of transferring them to this board when we migrated here. I did read his historical commentary but I chose not to transfer the content to these archives because I admittedly wouldn't have known where to start and left that to another volunteer. I don't think that those pages of commentary have been transferred here on account of the fact that the old board is essentially unsearchable.
A trolling situation has been taking place in Paradise for some time now. It's to the point of critical mass now and once again, Shades, in spite of efforts by some to request that he create a new mod team, I'm sad to say he seems disinterested in that. Please know that the call for mods didn't begin with the troll spamming that is happening in Paradise. Some of us have intermittently called for mods going back to when EA left without notice. The current spamming of Paradise brought the situation to a head.
In closing, yes, I see the OP as a serving a two-fold purpose. A tribute to Grindael and Lem's attributing his departure to lack of moderation that enforces the rules of the board. I would bet my house, if I didn't need some place to live, that Lem having witnessed what she saw taking place in Paradise bore stark reminder to how Grindael left this community.

Re: A tribute to Grindael
^^^^ There you go, folks. The above has been brought to you by a troll who entered the forum for the express purpose of trolling the board and who when posters in Paradise responded in kind, threw up his hands decided to depart but only after destroying the evidence if his trolling by deleting approx. 300+ posts of his and replacing said evidence with a period and who then returned to increase his activity to perniciously troll-spamming the Paradise forum using 1-2 comments by Doc Cam as an excuse for his conduct here.

I miss Grindael.
I read everything he posted. It was some of the most fascinating insights into Mormonism and true Mormon history we’ve seen, and now it’s gone.

I don't have time just now but If I recall correctly when the community discussed the transfer of threads and commentary into the archives here, someone (or perhaps more?) volunteered to transfer his work.Doctor CamNC4Me wrote: ↑Sun Aug 08, 2021 5:42 pmI miss Grindael.I read everything he posted. Anyone could take that on now. The old board is well and truly broken though I think it's still possible to pick up some of the content. Me,I wouldn't know where to begin. That's why I volunteered to re-post his creative writing only. I knew where to look for it.
